First, if you get the chance to go to an in-person event, do it! It will help you practice being brave. You don't have to speak, you can just show your support by holding a sign or just clapping.
Let Women Speak/Speakers Corner event on Saturday was in Jacksonville Beach. It was a small group, and honestly that was great. It was totally safe. At most we got dirty looks or thumbs-down signs. But most people are supportive, or just confused. There was a chance to talk with people in a calm environment, and hand out written material about "terfs."
Small groups are great because everyone who wanted to speak got a chance to speak, including a woman who just walked up from the street. You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_BFKYIVDgY
One thing that struck me about this group is how young most women were. We get accused of being dinosaurs or out-of-touch old ladies, but that was 100% not the case here. Everyone was so young and...cool, haha.
Well, those are my observations for what they are worth. It was a good experience and I am glad I made the effort to go.
Again, I encourage you to go to any kind of event near you, so you can enjoy your right to speak and your right to assemble, support other women, and practice building some courage. Don't be discouraged by the violence at big events, like Brighton. There are lots of small, safe, IRL things going on.
All you women stay strong out there!
