There is a lot of discussion this morning about Twitter and recent arrests and the relative levels of violence expressed in various tweets.
Many people are rightly annoyed that men appear to have more freedom of expression than women. Several news stories also appear to be pushing this viewpoint. Some of these stories are disingenuous. Look at what has been redacted from pictures of offending tweets.
Redacted content is the bit that has resulted in an arrest. Stuff that is freely repeated isn’t going to cause the newspaper or blogger difficulties, for example being in contempt of court.
If you are tweeting about a known contentious topic that attracts ire please, please protect yourself. Know the law for your jurisdiction. For example, the difference between making an explicit threat against an undefined group of people and an implicit threat being perceived against a named individual. Hypothetically speaking.
I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. Anyone else want to weigh in with a more informed opinion?
