Update concerning this post.

Today I got an email that said they want to publish my letter! Only, they have a couple of clarifications first... And then proceed to ask some really stupid questions. I mean....sigh...

Honestly, I think the reason this movement has so much momentum is because people are stupid.

I'm very discouraged.

They probably want to brand you as hateful.

Grrr…but keep us posted. Good luck and a thank you for trying to speak out !

There are many large, well-funded, mainstream organizations disseminated propaganda on this issue and twisting the language so no one really understands what they are actually talking about. I mean, yeah, people can be stupid, but also, people are working really hard to make sure they believe things that are not true, and don't understand things that are really obvious. We have to somehow help them see through the BS and just be clear. (For example, we know trans boys are girls, but a lot of people genuinely don't understand what that means.)

Thank you for reminding me to be patient with other people, and just calmly explain. They're not stupid, the rhetoric is intentionally confusing. If I didn't have you gals to talk things over with, I would just be angry 24/7, haha!

Don't be discouraged, this is a huge step! Thanks for your bravery. Any chance you could share it privately once it's published?

Don't be discouraged: then they win. Just assume they are not the sharpest tool in the shed, but stick to your guns!

Unfortunately people don’t read anything. They skim. These days I use short bullet points. And you’re right, this shit has been able to take root because people don’t read.

Congrats! Keep up the good work. You might be right that many are stupid, but it's good to write simply so people new to the topic can understand.

Congrats, that is amazing! Why are you feeling discouraged? Is it something about the stupid questions?

[–] VeggieAnnie [OP] 12 points (+12|-0)

Yeah, the questions make me think that no one is ever going to get the argument. I couldn't have been any clearer in the letter. It's great letter, if I do say so myself. But still...with the effing language games...I can't take these people anymore.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

These days I feel that Helen Joyce is my model for clarity. I especially enjoyed Benjamin Boyce's interviews with her. He's a pretty good interviewer in that he positions himself as a foil to feminist interviewees, so he makes the interviewees explain things without assuming shared values.

But Joyce is a whole other class of clear and compelling speaker. I'm taking notes. And looking forward to her book coming out this summer.

Ohhh... so basically the questions are things that are easily answered in the letter itself? That's annoying. Are you going to respond?

[–] VeggieAnnie [OP] 12 points (+12|-0)

What I did was say, "I appreciate you getting clarification first, but I believe this sentence two sentences later explains" and just copied-and-pasted myself. Then said like one more point. But I just... I can't with these people. The reading comprehension is so low.

Like, what did they ask?

[–] VeggieAnnie [OP] 30 points (+30|-0)

"If female sports teams are available only to biological girls, doesn't that preclude transboys?" Like...are you seriously telling me that you think a transboy is a biological boy? Are you seriously that fucking dumb? Sorry for the language, I'm just so sick of the idiocy. I'm sick of playing games.

[–] Hyacinth 2 points (+2|-0)

I know, to think that your in a position to educate the editorial staff is amazing. Maybe mention the fact that men's sports are open to everyone... if females had the ability to compete against males, male sports team would be recruiting them.

LOL, two sentences later in the letter is an explanation of men's/boys teams being explicitly open to everyone in the legislation! Like, sort of at length. So I literally copied and pasted from my letter into the email and was like....doesn't this clarify?

[–] mil-bil 2 points (+2|-0)

Yeah... I can't understand why people aren't asking themselves "why can't these boys continue to play on teams with other boys"?

[–] fickleherring 6 points (+6|-0) Edited

They really might not know that transboys are girls... And, as Eava said, the answer depends on whether they are on T.

[–] OneStarWolf 15 points (+15|-0)

As long as they are not doping to raise their testosterone above a woman’s biological levels then there’s no problem with girls who identify as “trans boys” competing.

[–] Eava 19 points (+19|-0)

There is the issue of what team transboys on cross sex hormones should compete on. If they were not trans, they would be disqualified for doping.

[–] dixiechick547 19 points (+19|-0)

Dopers should be disqualified from ALL teams. Especially given the transdermal nature of testosterone.

[–] VeggieAnnie [OP] 10 points (+10|-0)

No, there's nothing in the legislation or the letter about hormone levels or anything.
