Took a look at the front page image, and I think today is finally the tipping point for me getting off of Ravelry...

I know many designers began offering their patterns elsewhere after the site redesign debacle. But, I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for how to keep my stash, patterns, and projects organized.

I've seen things like Trello and Airtable mentioned on a lot of sewing blogs. I'm going to work on downloading my library this week - I'd just like to be able to have it 'visually' organized, which was the big advantage to the Ravelry library.

[ETA: I have downloaded Trello and started organizing my patterns with it. I posted some info in the comments, for anyone interested.]

Me too. I stopped hanging out there and deleted most of my stuff not linked to patterns and the yarn database after the redesign. Someone on a GC FB group screencapped the front page with the butt plug...I'm gone. I just totally deleted my a/c. I have no issues with kink. I just think it should be private, between consenting adults. Putting a butt plug on a 'desktop' next to a laptop? That has to be deliberately mocking. Fuckwits.

what! They didn't even allow anything related to trump and are fine with this??? W O W

The person who put Ravelry together transitioned MTF sometime after the NoTrump stuff but before the redesign in 2020. There is a feeling that the new, um, kink-friendly attitude is related to their transition.

Okay, I see LoveCrafts as a pretty good alternative https://www.lovecrafts.com/en-us/

also, found this post with lots of links: https://promisedfibers.wordpress.com/2020/07/03/ravelry-alternatives/

ETA: Rowan has a pattern library: https://knitrowan.com/en/patterns/digital-pattern-collections/all-patterns

Okay, wasn't sure if I should update post or just comment but here goes, for anyone interested...

-I downloaded the Trello desktop app (using a free account so far) and have followed this little tutorial. It's actually pretty brilliant. I created a 'board' for knitting patterns, 'lists' for separate categories (hats, sweaters, scarves, etc.), and then created a 'card' for each pattern. You can add photo of the pattern, link to the pattern file itself (on your computer, google drive, dropbox, etc), and add a description.

-There is also a tagging system (they call them 'labels') - so far I've created labels for yarn weight, 'list' titles, and some fabric characteristics (brioche, lace, colorwork). This will allow me to use the search function if I quickly want to find something brioche in laceweight yarn, or a cowl with cables, without scanning through the lists. It's certainly not as detailed as the Ravelry search function, but I think I can make it work for some of the simpler parameters.

-It is tedious. Downloading all my patterns (thankfully I already had a folder system set up to organize them), creating the lists and cards and labels in Trello, uploading a photo for each pattern. It's going to take a while.

-You can make templates. If I figure that out, and can turn my 'system' into a template for others to use, I'll post another update.

I overlooked the TRA politics on ravelry since it's a great resource of free crochet patterns, but yeah... I'll be getting rid of my account. Don't see how a buttplug and kink has anything to do with pride....or needlecrafting

God, that’s disgusting. Not surprising, though, considering the Laydee who owns the site.

I avoid the front page altogether. I have friends on one forum there that’s solely about cats, and value the site for that.

I learned so much about Ravelry today...and I hate everything I've learned. I don't design patterns but I've used it to pay for patterns, so...I'm torn. 💔

I've bought a lot of patterns there, too... Thankfully, many designers have their work available to purchase elsewhere. Lovecrafts/Loveknitting.com (as another commenter mentioned), Etsy, individual Payhip shops. I'm not going to stop feeding my pattern addiction supporting designers, but my intention is to only purchase offsite.

Shirt on the screen that says, “We are everywhere”. Yeah, no kidding. No escape from the T’s anywhere.

Ravelry is my source for patterns. I don't go there for pictures of.... let me check... people in dog masks with leather harnesses on. But where will we get our patterns? It's just such a great collection with useful search functions.... hmmmm.

I've been looking for an alternative for a long time, but alas... Especially Cassidy's email attacks on the disabled after the site redesign were the last drop for me (and then the female employees apologized instead of Cassidy, omg!). I'm a pattern seller, so for that I have many alternatives. However, I'm sad that there's not a good alternative for me personally to track my works, to chat with people on forums, etc. If anyone knows of one, let me know. I've been wanting to make one myself, but that would take many years, hahah.

Yeah, the whole thing with the redesign and Cassidy going off to pout was so wrong, then posting on Twitter recently about somehow turning patterns into NFTs, and now 'Nothing Says Knitting Like Bondage and Buttplugs'... I'm not putting money in their pockets anymore.

Made a Trello account, and I'm going to try following a tutorial I found on a sewing blog. I'll update if I have success. (Would love to see your patterns, if you're comfortable sharing that, too! Pattern collecting is also a hobby of mine apparently, haha)

then posting on Twitter recently about somehow turning patterns into NFTs

Nooooo! It just keeps getting worse!

And thank you for your interest in my patterns! Unfortunately I'm not really comfortable sharing, since my livelihood depends on it remaining an apolitical, drama-free shop, and you never know who's reading forums like these. But I'm flattered by people being interesting in each other's craft patterns and supporting them here, it's good to see us all supporting each other. :)

No worries, I totally understand.

That was one of the things I loved most when I found Ravelry, the ability to support (predominately female) designers who put so much love into their craft. I'll miss that.

I just looked for him on twitter - has he been banned?

Have you shared your patterns on here, if not please PM me, I’m always looking for good patterns.

I haven't shared them here. Thank you for your interest, but in all honestly I'm not comfortable linking my pattern shop and designer persona (which is my livelihood) with any personal posting profiles or political websites, since it could mean serious loss of income if anyone would have bad intentions.
