Welcome!

This is a community for any and all art and crafting enthusiasts, no matter whether you're knitting, sewing, painting, photographing, sculpting, woodworking, glassblowing, or anything else that ends up with a finished piece of art at the end.

You can show off your own creations, recommend resources, patterns and instructions, ask for help, discuss techniques and materials, or show us your inspirations - there's room for all of it! For ease of navigating, please flair your posts accordingly.

Our Rules:

Please be kind to each other. This is an open and beginner-friendly community, so if you give criticism, be constructive, and keep your comments about the art.

Slurs of any kind are not tolerated. You can include swears (but not slurs) in your art, but please keep the swearing out of the comments.

When posting your own works, please include the medium or material in the title and use it as an opportunity to describe your work. All posts of things you did not make yourself need to be credited to the best of your abilities.

**Don't repost material **others have posted here or elsewhere on Ovarit, and please try to avoid duplicate posts.

If you want to promote your own or someone else's items for sale, the stickied thread is the place to do it. We love celebrating and supporting women creators, so link your favourites!

The sitewide rules and guidelines are in effect here.

Our Flairs:

  • Inspo - inspiration and things you find cool!
  • Q - questions

Oh. This is awesome! I want to post all my stuff, but I don't. Maybe if someone outs me to my art groups.

But I am working. (Not very far along) on a sweater for my SO's mom. I can post that here, can let her see her gift!

I also make jewelry out of recycled materials.

I will try to post tips and... lots of things.

I look forward to seeing content from you! (Even if it's not your own creations)

Oooh, this is great! I'm hoping to take up beading soon (not Native designs, I don't want to be disrespectful), does anyone else do beadwork? I do film photography as a hobby but I haven't shot anything for months cos a) pandemic and b) film is expensive.

That sounds super cool! I do some photography, but all with digital cameras (maybe eventually I will get good enough to invest some more money into it and maybe do film). I have done some bead stuff, but not for a while but I would definitely love to try again! (I am the person who likes to try ALL the crafts)

I used to do a lot of bead weaving and bead embroidery. I haven't in a few years ( small children are not conducive to not spilling hundreds of tiny beads on the carpet, that and I kinda lost my mojo for it). Most of the jewelry I wear is stuff I've made and I love getting compliments.

So, is it just for posting your own art or we could also share some articles/posts about other talanted women?

Definitely share art too! any shops go in the promotional thread, and make sure to credit the original artist to the best of your abilities!

Are we allowed to ask other woman their opinions on matters to involve into our future works as well?

I'm a content creator who has been planning some things for a while but I'd really like to hear what other people would like to see regarding certain topics and this seems like it might be just the place to ask this :)

Ohhh...this is awesome! So glad that this Circle was created. Willl definitely be posting in the weeks and months to come....

This is great!! Thank you

Do I need to subscribe or whatever it’s called or just look out for it?

You can subscribe if you want it in your personal feed or you can look at o/all for new posts!

Super excited for this circle! I love to paint, but pandemic has me in such a funk that I am having a block... I have several paintings I have been working on for years (lol yes years) and they are just sitting there dormant and sad! Hoping this circle will spark my creative fires again! Is posting video inspiration of contemporary female artists cool? For example, maybe I'm super basic, but I love Jessica Zoob and she has several vids on her process/technique.

Oh I am in a funk too! I hope we can inspire each other to keep creating :) YES definitely share your inspo (we have a whole flair dedicated to that!)

Excited to see this circle grow! I'm primarily a knitter but I also dabble in collage and natural dyes.

Might I recommend an [FO] flair for finished objects? Sometimes you just want to brag!

I really want to see more about natural dyes! I've seen a few people dyeing with avocado, and it got me excited about it.

I'm still collecting pits for avocado dye! My favorite so far is onion skin dye, though walnut is lovely as well. Walnut season this year wad woefully wet, so I didn't collect any and kind of regret it.

I just looked it up because I didn’t even know it was a thing, and wow, those pinks are gorgeous!

I am a knitter mainly too! I added an OG tag for creations. Can't believe I forgot that :sweatblob:

Thank you for creating this circle! I knit, and would love to post FOs. My only concern is being identified.

I take it “ball of yarn being savaged by cat” doesn’t count as a WIP? :P

Well technically no, but I would love to see that anyways. Fair enough! You can go your own pace with sharing FOs. Only you know your own privacy concerns!

When I figure out how to post a photo in a comment (can we do that?) 😄

You can link it using Imgur or you can do a post with a photo (you need to be level 3 to do a direct upload FYI)

Thanks so much for creating this circle, I'm super happy to see it here! :) While I may not be able to post my own creations here (due to identifying reasons), I am nonetheless keen to see what others post and to share more general links, etc.

That’s my worry, I don’t want to be identified on here either. Which is annoying because Showing Off Finished Objects!!!

Ha, right? I'd love to be able to share my stuff here, but my currently hobby is quite specific and would be instantly identifiable.

Mine’s not specific that way, but would be pretty identifiable to anyone who knows it from the craft site I use. I value that place for other things, so wouldn’t want to be kicked off.

For sure! Everyone has a piece to share even if they can't share their own artwork <3
