Alarmingly, too many people on Twitter saying ‘well, if he hadn’t written something that upset people, this wouldn’t have happened’. You’re allowed to upset people.

What's most disturbing is that it's not just religious conservatives saying this kind of thing now. It's also people who like to think of themselves as "left" or "progressive" who also think you shouldn't write things that might hurt someone's feelings. As if free speech is only for sanitized texts or things you agree with.
