Statement this morning from Josh Moon after the site was abruptly dropped by their host in Russia. It does not bode well for freedom of speech on the Internet, or in general, and will only serve to embolden far more authoritarian regimes. This little bird was the canary in the coal mine and now it's dead.

In my life, there is a family emergency. It has absolutely nothing to do with the forum drama. I cannot and will not elaborate further. There will be a week or more where I am completely unavailable and it is likely the site will go down during this time where I will not be able to bring it up.

I want to appraise our situation frankly.

Domain Registrar: Cloudflare was both our application-level DDoS mitigation and our domain registrar. They have given me a way to transfer my domains to another registrar. I do not know what registrar to send it to because I do not have faith in any company.

DDoS Mitigation: DDoS-Guard will drop us dropped us while I was writing this post. This meme about Russia being a free country is a joke. The US is a free country, but with no stewards to protect it. Without the US, there is no second best. I did not expect Cloudflare to crumple so quickly and I don't have a Plan C for DDoS mitigation.

Resource Allocation: I own IP addresses. Our IP allocation is from APNIC. APNIC is one of the 5 private companies which allocate Internet resources around the world. APNIC happens to be based out of Australia, which recently passed draconian censorship laws. There is an effort to get our RIR to revoke our allocation. This would be unprecedented in the history of the Internet, and considering China is in APNIC's region, an absolutely horrific standard which will echo throughout the upcoming decades. There is a non-zero chance of this happening.

Hosting: We have one host and I am looking at two more. It is likely that the host will give up too. The two hosts confident they can handle the Kiwi Farms are probably wrong. DDoS-Guard was confident they could handle the Kiwi Farms and said "bring it on" for less than 24 hours.

This is an organized attack. There is a coalition of criminals trying to frame the forum for their behavior. These criminals provide opportunities for professional victims to amplify their message. Journalists canonize the crimes as the behavior of the forum itself, which becomes the effective truth for the general public.

This is a machine that was built up formerly against 8chan and activates any time the cathedral wants to test the new fronts of its censorship. It is a massive amalgamation of various interests. I am one person. The financial limitations aren't even the real problem - the problem is, I am powerless alone. There is no amount of money I can throw to convince people to be brave and be free. This is just the reality of our country.

And what this machine will not accept is compromise. If I censored specific kinds of behavior, it would not matter. They don't want a specific thing censored. They want the average person to be able to speak in channels where only specific thoughts are acceptable.

More importantly, they want to make it so that no small organization can host a service which threatens the cathedral. It used to be that one guy with a good idea could open a platform and be a Tom Anderson, Mark Zuckerberg, Tom Fulp, Christopher Poole, or Richard Kyanka. Take note these names are all from 10+ years ago. There are no new groundbreakers online anymore because breaking ground in the new Internet's corporate parking lot is not allowed.

I do not see a situation where the Kiwi Farms is simply allowed to operate. It will either become a fractured shell of itself, like 8chan, or jump between hosts and domain names like Daily Stormer.

Essentially what he's saying is that Xi and Putin alike are cheering this right now. I know I will always remember where I was when the 9/11 of the Internet happened. And once again, I feel like the terrorists have won.

I really hope he manages to get it back up. He has a will of iron so am optimistic. I didn't like it to start with but came to value their bluntness overtime especially as more and more women started using the site. Josh mentioned a huge influx of women a couple of years ago.

It doesn't matter that we 'behave' over here they want us gone. There was some shocking stuff in the Farms but it was pointing out the child grooming and paedophilia of the trans that did it.

I also really appreciated Josh's blanket ban of porn.

Me too, about the porn. He's on record on his streams saying he bans it to make the site less hostile to the female users. You can tell he was raised by a strong single mother (he's also on record explaning that).

Women started going there in greater numbers (some of us were there all along...) when other forums where it's ok to talk about the negatives of modern gender ideology, and the shenanigans of some of its biggest names, were shut down one by one. Lots of women joined when Reddit purged all the GC and actual feminist groups.

Are there subforums that make fun of feminists? Sure. I can hold my own, though. Is there racism? Yeah. Ditto, and I scroll on by it, plus just generally not going into threads where that stuff was remotely the main focus.

But I will say, I had some of the most nuanced conversations I've been able to have, about the trans stuff, over there, including actually compassionate discussion about Jazz Jennings' situation when all the various TV chat boards were banning all talk of it. A lot of that had crude language (they are very unkind about the results of transgender body modifications over there LOL) but the core of it was solid. They had no rules about being nice, or having any specific correct ideology or politics, and it was kinda refreshing.

And yeah. This isn't about some specific incident, this is about wanting certain opinions scrubbed. There's a reason they say they're going after Mumsnet next -- it's because Mumsnet doesn't ban for "transphobia" and doesn't care if you "misgender" people, and freely airs all manner of dirty pink semen-stained laundry. Particularly in the various "here's my horror story after my husband came out as trans" threads.

If this shuts down there will be some other place. Some other forum that until now people considered "beyond the pale" will acquire the "refugees" and have its stigma lessened as a result. At which point, it will become the next target.

Horrible as they were, I was actually impressed by how many men on KF were inspired to stop watching porn. Part of it was Dicky No Worky, but some of it was understanding the horrible nature of the porn business. If Josh could motivate the kind of heartless assholes that were on there to stop watching porn- it provided a great value.

A bunch of posters who went through the SRS/GRS horrors thread also commented saying that thread was what made them reconsider the surgeries, and at best, stop buying into the lie of transgenderism altogether. And man, the shit on that thread, that is just reuploads of what trans-identified people posted publicly themselves, is the fucking wildest shit. It's libsoftiktok all over again. They're not even going after content creators - they're going after archivals.

“There's a reason they say they're going after Mumsnet next -- it's because Mumsnet doesn't ban for "transphobia" and doesn't care if you "misgender" people“

I hate to disillusion anyone, but Mumsnet moderators have been banning women for YEARS for “misgendering” and “phobias.”

The feminists still posting on MN FWR know what’s up, but they are very careful now to moderate their language in order to avoid deletion and/or banning. A number of star posters are now either banned or just walked away.

I still think it’s a valuable place to talk to a more general audience (in addition to niche spaces like Ovarit); it’s the place where I first noticed what was going on, after all.

That's unfortunate to hear, but agreed it's a good place to talk to the more general audience.

I pop in there from time to time and very much recognized a LOT of the transwidow stuff. It needs to be out there.

I am wondering if the stampede of women is what has caused the downfall. Wherever women who don't bow down try and congregate outraged men follow and cause trouble. (Sorry about that Josh!) I wish I had saved a few posts now there was some amazing terf/swerf stuff on there.

I'm sure punishing the GC female refugees was part of it. But I think they mainly targeted KF because they kept immaculate receipts of all the creepy shit that TIMs like Yaniv and Keffals did

Yeah. Parts of it became positively kind and gentle and we can't have that amidst our shit posting...

" it's because Mumsnet doesn't ban for "transphobia" and doesn't care if you "misgender" people"

yes they do, they just don't tell you why you are getting banned, in fact they don't tell you anything at all, they quietly leave you to say whatever you like while taking score then suddenly ban you without a word as to why. thats why so many people on mumsnet come back time after time with different names, they talk, they swear, they misgender and so on, they get randomly banned, they make a new account and carry on, its the way things are over there no one actually knows what is or isn't allowed the rules are clear as mud so they can do whatever they like and people just get used to it and take it on the chin.

Nothing that I use can become a target because it is decentralized and encrypted out the ass. Over a dozen Ovarit users have already joined me there and I’d be happy to guide you to it.

Have joined you where? I’m interested in similar sites, could never fully get into Spinster though.

Josh mentioned a huge influx of women a couple of years ago.

Pretty sure that happened when The Reddit Purge happened, r/GC was killed, and the reddit mods became more militant about banning females for wrongthink. GC women had nowhere to go and speak freely before Ovarit sprung up

I think PULL shutting down as well as the mods at r/blogsnark going draconian had an impact too

Josh has claimed that he had contingencies in place and people willing to step in if he suddenly couldn't run the site anymore. I hope that's true just in case this fight has taken a toll on him personally and he needs to step away (especially in light of whatever family emergency he has going on)

Keffals' minions went after his mother, so I imagine it might have something to do with that. These people are terrorists, and they don't care about hurting innocent people for as long as those people are in some way connected to their "enemies." Like for instance, sometimes I honestly worry about JKR's kids.

And they justified going after his mom because she (allegedly) had a KF account. So they're not just going after the people in charge of these sites. They're perfectly fine with ruining your life if you even had an account there (even if you never posted anything bad)

They will totally do this to ovarit and any other forum that let's women speak freely about genderwoo. Now that KF is down for the foreseeable future, they need a new boogeyman (or boogeywoman) to screech about

I'm hoping this is just a blip to make the terrorists think he's gone and lay off KF a bit. But I do know that Josh finds this very tiring and all-consuming and within the last year or two he was considering quitting.

I can't say I blame him. Especially after the threats towards his mother and the rapid increase of mainstream media attention towards him and the site. I hope those contingencies are still there. But it wouldn't surprise me if part of his stress is that nobody else is willing to take over for him
