I'm going to spend this forthcoming year aiming to exclusively read works only by women and predominately about women. This is based on the attitude of Sheila Jeffreys who says she has read mostly women based works for the past 30 pus years.

What would people add to my list so far? I'm aiming for minimum one key text or classic per month plus my normal audiobooks and any additional books i pick up.

I want a list to keep me focused. i love starting books but don't always finish them. This year I'm getting finished! :D

This is a really interesting idea! I don't know if I can read only books written by women based on what I've already got on my shelves, but I'm going to make an effort to make it 50/50. And this list is good inspiration, I have 2, 4, and 9 already.

It came from listening to Sexual Differences by Kate Millet as recommended by Sheila Jeffrey's. She breaks down the misogyny in four different books. It was mind blowing. It made me wonder how conditioned I was being by the books I read. Yes, go for 50/50. I'll be making an exception for Joe Abercrombie if he releases one. Actually, since getting more into feminism, I've read his books differently. He does strong female roles after someone years ago pointed out the lack in fantasy. I asked him a question about using the trope of the Happy Hooker. It was an online author interview and I could see him get uncomfortable when he clocked it in the screen. He never responded but I hope to see some more nuance in his writing. That's just one example but I doubt a woman with her eyes wide open would do the same. I've really started to understand the term conscious raising this year! 😄👍
