Starting on October 18, The Sims 4 base game will be available for free for everyone. Until October 17, everyone who already owns The Sims 4 can download the "Desert Luxe Kit" for free.

The official announcement from EA: https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/news/play-the-sims-4-for-free-beginning-october-18

I personally don't like The Sims 4 extremely much (although I play it...) because I feel it's lacking in gameplay and personality compared to the older Sims games.

I'd still recommend everyone getting the game and trying it out - although I'd advise not to buy DLC after being bored out by the base game. That's basically how I got hooked with the Sims 4 while never really being a fan of the game, lol.

I enjoy playing sims. I use it basically as a design game and download all realistic content to make homes and commercial builds, that being said I can’t stand the sims community.

It fully promotes trans nonsense, now forcing pronouns on the sims whether you want to use them or not and the entitlement of the entire community is absolutely insane.

Agree, the community is toxic. It seems like every interest and hobby that young women and girls have (sims players are mostly female) gets to be infected with gender stuff.

But well, the community has asked for "trans representation" and neo-pronouns for a long time - EA would be stupid if they didn't follow along.

The simblr community was awful. And there's also the issue of mm cc lovers bullying alpha cc lovers for no good reason

From what I recall they have thousands of dollars worth of purchasable content in their cash shop (it's insane), so this won't make any difference other than getting more people that are not experienced in "sailing the seven seas" and modding into their cash shop.

Last night when I checked, the whole game including DLC and expansion packs is $1,500 CAD.

It's been a long time since I've played Sims. Was there not like an in-game shop where you could purchase individual hairstyles and outfits? I remember seeing the prices and being astounded.

Edit: That was Sims 3 I think!

I think so? I don't really know because I stopped playing after Sims 2. I only briefly tried Sims 3 and Sims 4.

I'll check it out. The dlc prices are absurd though. They cost hundreds of dollars in total.

Can't have pets unless you pay. ☹️

Awesome! :D Based on what I have noticed most of the people who play the game these days do it for reasons other than the gameplay... Stuff like creating mods, Anime characters, celebrity Sims etc... I know someone who makes comics with The Sims 4! And some movies too... Oh yes The Sims 4 can also be a very VERY good source of cheap 3D Models too for people who use Blender and stuff! If you wanna rip 3D Models from the game you can use this... : https://modthesims.info/d/635720/ts4-simripper-classic-rip-sims-from-savegames-v3-13-1-0-7-13-22.html

Its a trap. All the "good stuff" will be on the store as in game purchases I bet. Sort of like Blizzard. I guess EA got sick of trying to sell their $5000 game on Steam.

Oh, I'm old enough to remember the utter disappointment sims 4 base game was when it came out. How can you skip pools when half of your audience is murderers. Even the cottage living expansion just was painful due to the base game limitations.

I'm thinking of picking up sims 2 again after watching Izzzyzzz's recap video - I missed out so much as a kid who barely spoke English.

I was in the same boat. Loved Sims 1-3 dearly, but I actually returned Sims 4. So disappointing.

If you have the game and are able to play it (there are some problems with all systems younger than Windows 7) - I definitely recommend it! I still play the Sims 2 fairly regularily and enjoy it a lot. It has so many fun gameplay features.

in my country the full sims 4 is worth MORE what a PS5 is worth XD, I'm not ashamed to admit that the sims 4 was always "free" for me, it seems that the only thing they are going to do is to cut 50 dollars and that's it.

EA giving something away for FREE!!? damn. I still play the Sims 3 from time to time so I'll just stick with that haha

Yeah but the base game is so bare bones that you will end up spending an absurd amount to get any of the fun stuff.

I have never played The Sims. Is it any good? I'd try it for free if it's worth it.

I've been playing since the original (The Sims 1) so I definitely recommend it lol. TS4 is probably the best for aesthetics, building (i.e. making and decorating houses and other lots) and maybe making characters ("Create-a-Sim") but maybe the worst in actual gameplay lol. So I would try it, and if you do end up enjoying actually playing more than Build/Buy or CAS, I would recommend trying TS3 and/or TS2 instead for even more, rather than getting expansions for TS4. (P.S. I also still love TS1 but it might just be the nostalgia of it lol)

Thanks for the info! I’ll check out 4 and see if it’s the kind of game for me!

I just can't get into Sims 3 and 4. Sims 2 is probably my most-played game of all time, being that I still often play it almost 20 years after it was released (2004). I've downloaded tons and tons of free Sims 2 custom content and mods, including some really unique objects that two women creators made/make that allow you to give your Sims a very detailed (beyond just clothes and skins) medieval/farm life experience.

With Sims 3 and 4 however, I just find so many things off-putting. For starters, I'm not a fan of the more cartoony art style and I'm annoyed that the base games (especially with Sims 4) are so bare bones. Maybe I just haven't given them enough time to grow on me, but yeah, I'll forever be in love with Sims 2.

the sims 2 for me is still the best game, I still play it today and I still have a lot of fun.

Sims 2 all the way! I also don't like Sims 3 and Sims 4. I HATED the character creation in 4 due to all the GI shenanigans. And I hated Sims 3 because I DON'T WANT TO DO VIRTUAL LAUNDRY EA. There's just something that bugs me about them. I just want a remastered Sims 2, is that so hard??

All time favourite expansion packs: Pets, Making Magic, Seasons

Agree, Sims 2 is the best game ever. It's just more complicated to play it with new computers and to buy it in the first place.
