Pretty much exactly what the title says; I'm looking for anime games where the female characters aren't overly sexualised. Taking from my comment in this post, I avoid anime games on principle due to how many treat their female characters as little more than sex objects. However, I am willing (and encouraged) to be proven wrong.

So by anime games, I am referring to any game of any genre that has an anime art style and/or originated from an east Asian country (so Japan, China, or South Korea). Mods of games that desexualise the content (if those even exist) are also allowed.

This can also be a general discussion on anime games as a whole. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the latest JRPG, for example, whether you liked it or not :)

I'm pretty fond of Heartbeat, which is a charming little RPGmaker game that clearly draws inspiration from JRPGs and Pokemon. The gameplay is somewhat repetitive, but the plot and endearing all-female cast got me through the grind. I bought it because it got review-bombed for the developers' girlfriend being an outspoken TERF, but I ended up putting way more hours into it than I expected.

List of unambiguous same sex attraction present in the Heartbeat RPG(spoilers)

  • Late-game female party member flirts relentlessly with the female main protag.
  • Side-quest where a conjurer is trying to (unsuccessfully) escape her two female partners due to negative backlash from human society, and the entire sequence reads like a lesbian trying to repress her homosexuality (it ends on a largely positive note, no worries).
  • Two of the female mogwai in the aquatic museum are literally wives who got married to each other upon reuniting after years of searching and waiting for each other.
  • Evil female general has photos of her female subordinate hidden in her bedroom.
  • Cowboy girl's mogwai doesn't deny it when another character refers to her as cowboy girl's "girlfriend".
  • One of your party members has two dads.
  • Rabbit mogwai calls wolf mogwai her fiancée, both are female.
  • Mogwai generally prefer people of the same-sex so they're basically gay by default.
  • Heavily implied that humans who can form pacts with mogwai have to be attracted to the same sex.
  • The main protag develops a very obvious crush on a female musician.
  • Your female cat companion often flirts with attractive women and was once a womanizer, plus she can acquire a sword named after a Utena reference.
  • One of the party members can get dual axes called "Labrys & Sappho".
  • That female tanuki shopkeeper NPC falls in love with a female conjurer.
  • Two female enemy mogwai later have a kid together in the credits.
  • The big reveal is essentially two gay tragedies wrapped into one, with a male mogwai trying to elope with the mogwai emperor which leads to the separation of the main protag's grandma and one of her female mogwai partners who was explicitly in love with her.
  • One Mogwai NPC has a VERY specific type and therefore has a crush on your party member of that description. However, her crush doesn’t know she exists… until…?
  • One of the female rancher Mogwais has a mutual unknown crush on another female rancher Mogwai.
  • During a side-quest, you must question a female conjurer about a mysterious woman known only for hosting wild parties. She explicitly states the parties were “mainly for people to hook up.” The parties seem to have been attended mostly/only by women.
  • A post-game female NPC hints at an unrequited love who is probably one of the former soldiers.
  • One female character may have had feelings for another female character who is married.
  • A human character expresses interest toward a “brunette” (who is neither named nor pictured).
  • Unrelated to the game, the developer is a lesbian who, when asked about the why there's so much lesbians in the game, just says she just felt like it/likes women. From the Steam posts, she's been working on the sequel at the moment.

Oh it is the game that attracted ire from TRAs due to the TERF dev that I heard about? XD That alone makes it worth checking out!
