Since clothing and other behaviours are cultural markers that help to distinguish between the two sexes, cross-dressing breaks this law very blatantly. And further, to allow cross-dressing potentially allows the mixing of the sexes in ways that could undermine paternity rights.

In many fictional non-gendered worlds, everyone dresses the same with the same haircut.

That's not what I see when I think of a world beyond gender. We'd be flamboyant and somber, silk and leather, naked and wrapped.

I may be influenced by Marge Piercy's Woman on the Edge of Time with this vision. I read it so long ago it is embedded in my imagination.
