I just discovered this was a thing and had to share it here. Its so fucking ridiculous.

First off, their slogan is "Queer, Inclusive, Badass" (starting with a slur. Lovely)

And here's their About Us blurb:

Pride month may be over, but LGBTQ lives are at risk. Trans Americans of all ages are under attack, women and people with the capacity for pregnancy have lost fundamental freedoms. Black, Latinx, and Asian Americans still face overt and systemic racism. Our workforce is experiencing extreme burnout, COVID-19 has shifted how we work faster than companies can keep up with, and most days we’re simply trying to keep up. Which is why we’re coming together in San Francisco and all over the world virtually to heal and prepare for the road ahead.

I love how they whine about racism while using a racist colonizer term like "Latinx". Also, of fucking course they address "transphobia" before touching on Roe v Wade at a WOMEN'S event. Can't let those lesbians forget who actually matters here!

There will be daycare, a kids meetup, ping pong, basketball hoops, mentoring and more. We expect over 15K to join us from all over the world.

Hopefully the drag queens they hire to watch the kids aren't convicted sex offenders this time....

Also, most of the speakers aren't tech people (and a lot of them are men). Most of them are some flavor of activist and look like they can barely work a smartphone, let alone offer any insight into what its like to be a woman in tech.

Speakers include notable ""lesbians"" like Chuckie Clymer and the (male) founder of Air BnB.

The mayor of San Francisco is also there. I'd like to believe that the attendees will ask her about all the human shit and homeless people they had to dodge to get there. But I'm guessing the mayor will just clean up the area around the conference and shuffle the homeless off to some poor neighborhood

So it looks like this is yet another lesbian/woman event that got colonized by trans/queer bullshit. And I'm pretty sure the tech part will also take a backseat to whining about trans issues and coddling all the men in attendance

Oh my god did you see this: https://lesbianswhotech.org/convince-your-boss-pride/

I'm trying to imagine presenting that to any of my past managers in any line of work with a straight face.

That is hilarious! Imagine pulling this shit to try and guilt your boss into paying for a vacation!

I almost admire how brazen their grifting is.

It pisses me off slightly because bosses can end up suspicious of all conferences ('oh, my employee wants me to pay for their holiday so they can get a job elsewhere?') while some of them can be interesting and valuable (and benefit the company). But this letter is like 'you should send me because the conference is badass', like, what? 'I am confident I can find stuff to go to'-- well, yeah, that's a given... It reads like it was written by a child. So this just kinda makes it harder for everyone to go to conferences.

I counted and got fewer than 20 technical sessions, out of the 230 sessions. This would be difficult to sell to a boss who was paying attention.

Anyway, more hilights:

https://events.lesbianswhotech.org/sanfrancisco2022/agenda/session/999276 "NFTs as you know are a hot topic right now and it’s here to stay. "

Another (keynote!) talk titled: "Building an Astrology Product That Can Shift Paradigms"

This talk from a sr software engineer: https://events.lesbianswhotech.org/sanfrancisco2022/agenda/session/999280

Nearly every programmer is going to have to type commands into a terminal sooner or later, but it can be intimidating, especially if you haven’t spent a lot of time in the command line before! (I thought this was supposed to be a tech conference though??? But I did include this one in my list of 'technical talks'! That's how thin on the ground they were!)

EDIT: oh also most of the ones I did count were still adverts.
