such an exciting development...there is hope after all!

Hopefully this encourages more Democratic politicians to take a more critical approach to this issue.

The replies are so predictable. “You’re responsible for children killing themselves. Do you even know any trans people? Educate yourself.”

“Comparing gender affirmation to tattoos means you think trans is a choice. I can’t believe I voted for a bigot.”

And my favorite: “Why are you ignoring our harassment??”

[–] [Deleted] 44 points (+44|-0)

And my favorite: “Why are you ignoring our harassment??”

Do they mean the harassment they have been committing?

[–] salty-tomorrow 19 points (+19|-0)

I’m paraphrasing but yeah, there was one where someone said, like, “of course he’s ignoring us,” basically complaining he hadn’t immediately capitulated to TRA backlash on Twitter lol

[–] z6iiab 14 points (+14|-0)

they have to mean that right? lol oop, freudian slip haha

[–] hypatia 23 points (+23|-0)

I love to see it. I was thrilled to see Tulsi Gabbard sticking up for women also. Anything to make Dems stop using this issue as a purity test!

“Black Democrats tend to be more conservative than white progressives,” McKnight told Associated Press reporter Meg Kinnard. “I would not have ever put this bill forward if I didn’t think the people in my district wouldn’t be receptive, and they are. Pastors, young parents, older parents, they all tell me the same thing: if you want to do this, wait until you’re 18.”

Round of applause for this man! To send him a thank you message:

However, the Woke White are not going to like a Black man thinking for himself and certainly not a whole district of Black people. Let's keep a close eye on this one. May many more Democrats have the courage to follow his lead.

[–] femuhnist 52 points (+52|-0)

You know what though, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wish this wasn't seen as the conservative position. It's not. It's ass backwards to take a GNC youth and endorse her in thinking that she's a boy rather than telling her "it's OK to hate dresses and prefer short hair" or "it's OK to hate your breasts and your period" or "it's OK to be a lesbian." THAT'S the conservative position, and the anti-feminist one.

[–] notyourfetish 5 points (+5|-0)

Yeah. I really hate that, too. It's not "conservative." It's the non-idiot position.

To endorse this mess is to endorse misogyny and homophobia (and racism, since TIMs keep making disgusting comparisons between themselves (men) and black women).

[–] EvaDemeter 37 points (+37|-0)

They're literally lecturing him in his comments. It's pathetic. They'll turn themselves inside out trying to figure out who to support if this gains traction in minority communities across the country.

[–] ArmyofMe 62 points (+62|-0)

FINALLY. Good for him for going against the party line for what is right. I hope more follow.

[–] DR3737 57 points (+57|-0)

We should write him thank you letters

[–] ShingleShake 13 points (+13|-0)

I did as well! Hopefully we help counteract the slew of hate he's likely getting.

[–] actualdyke 45 points (+45|-0)

🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 this is amazing and what's even more amazing is it's actually being suggested by a Democrat!!!!! When Biden revealed his intentions on destroying women's rights it depressed me horribly but it's been so invigorating seeing how quickly people are responding to this - tulsi, the bipartisan attempt to save women's sports, and now this. it's like TRAs were successfully keeping this shit under the radar for so long and as soon as it got revealed to the general public the backlash has been swift and firm. I truly do believe that the only reason TRAs have been able to push their agenda so far is because they cleverly avoid revealing the truth abt their movement to normies, and now the Biden administration really shot themselves in the foot by making this such a massive public issue. praying this bill gets passed !!

[–] Tilak 40 points (+40|-0)

He better duck under his desk, missiles I N C O M I N G.

[–] hellamomzilla 38 points (+38|-0)

This is great. I'm also happy to see that this is garnering support across the aisle, as well.

The least we should be able to agree on, as adult Americans, is that minor children and teens should not be experimented on because a lot of sketchy adults say so.

[–] EvaDemeter 34 points (+34|-0)

Prepare for an onslaught of woke white people declaring him a lot of names that would be denounced immediately if they came from the right.

[–] hypatia 13 points (+13|-0)

The hypocrisy of some people always amazes me.

"I have been unemployed since 07/31/2009 due to Trans bias."

Sure, Jan.

[–] Hollyhock 14 points (+14|-0)

ahh...the mediocre righteous white men attacking the superior Black man...he's likely seen this story before.

[–] Ave_Lucifuge 9 points (+9|-0)

How many are going to have BLM in their Twitter bios? I'd bet a good 25%; if they're TIMs, double it. They're the definition of "whitewashed tombs".

[–] dixiechick547 32 points (+32|-0)

Wish he wasn’t a South Carolina state legislator. Southern Democrats tend to be more moderate and generally dismissed by the rest of the party. I doubt this will get much traction. I would love to see him interviewed to find out why he’s picking up this issue.

[–] [Deleted] 25 points (+25|-0)

Aren't they key to winning primaries though?

[–] marmaladestripes725 30 points (+30|-0) Edited

Incredibly. Biden wouldn’t have won the nomination if he hadn’t had the support in South Carolina.

[–] dixiechick547 19 points (+19|-0)

Most definitely. The progressive wing of the party hates them for that but can’t win without them. Moderate black people, mostly black are the base and they’re not having this shit.

[–] Hollyhock 21 points (+21|-0)

Yes, we need the feminists, but Biden fucking OWES the Black Democrats in the south...especially the women. If this man gets shit from rank and file Democrats, there would easily be a backlash from older, Black voters who, frankly, have given, given given to the Democrats and not received much in return.

[–] Ave_Lucifuge 13 points (+13|-0)

Democrats owe the black community a lot. That creepy ass "adults can date young teens" Republican from GA (what was his name?) just barely lost to a dem back in 2018 because black women were out in full force. They pretty much snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, it was incredible.

[–] dixiechick547 8 points (+8|-0)

Doug Jones in Alabama. My sister volunteered for that campaign. Jones is a good man. His loss in 2020 is awful.

[–] EvaDemeter 7 points (+7|-0)

Not as easily dismissed these days, but the party has got to come to grips sooner or later with the fact that outside of certain demographics, transing kids is not seen as a favorable thing. It's not even something most people come across, it just comes off the same way it does to everyone here. About time they realize a lot of people who feel this way are Democratic voters.

[–] VeggieAnnie 2 points (+2|-0)

What I see as hopeful about the fact that this is state-level legislation is the fact that state legislation tends to move in waves across the southern states. Think of the anti-abortion "heartbeat bills" that popped up from one southern state to another. That same phenomenon could work in this instance. Other states are going to be emboldened by the actions of South Carolina and Alabama.

[–] dixiechick547 1 points (+1|-0)

I really thought it would be set off by that case in Texas with the little boy whose dad didn’t want him transed. I thought Texas had a bill to end medical transing of kids but I couldn’t find it. It might’ve died in the legislature. That case just vanished from the news after the judge imposed a gag order. The mom now has custody and is proceeding with transing the kid. He’s 7 years old.

[–] VeggieAnnie 1 points (+1|-0)

That is so sad! Probably the gag order means no one is allowed to cover it, hence it vanished from the news. I'm sure you've heard about the Canadian father currently serving jail time over a similar case? He called his daughter "she" after a court order not to, and he's serving time.

[–] [Deleted] 31 points (+31|-0)

I'm almost afraid to hope, but I think the tide may be starting to turn at last. Or at least that we're at an inflection point. (I know, mixed metaphors.)

[–] worried19 29 points (+29|-0)

Thank God. To me, this is the most important issue. Sports and bathrooms are one thing. Performing irreversible surgeries and giving cross-sex hormones to children, many of them not even teenagers, is another matter entirely.

Receipts for TRA lurkers who refuse to believe this happens:

The mean (SD) age at chest surgery in this cohort was 17.5 (2.4) years (range, 13-24 years), with 33 (49%) being younger than 18 years. Of the 33 postsurgical participants younger than 18 years at surgery, 16 (48%) were 15 years or younger

Of the 11 surgeons who had performed vaginoplasty on a transgender female minor, 10 were in private practice. Reported ages of minors undergoing surgery ranged from 15 to “a day before 18” years

A gender therapist with the Kaiser Permanente healthcare organization in Oakland, California admits: “In terms of masculinizing top surgery, I think 12 is the youngest who’s had surgery through our program . . . .”

This mutilation of healthy children makes me so sick...absolutely sick. I am crying thinking about those poor girls and boys.

[–] questioningtw 3 points (+3|-0)

Sadly, a lot of TRAS are just fine with this. See unlike us evil TERFS, they care about the agency of teenagers. Oh except ones like Keira Bell, she is obviously evil.
