No they haven't. This is a black Southern Democrat. He's an anomaly.

I'm glad I came on here and saw this.

I was arguing with someone on Reddit (it wasn't trans-related but it was another similar made-up Tumblr movement) and I got banned from the sub (lol) and then I asked myself why I kept trying to reason with people who are out of touch with reality????

Then I started thinking how TRAs are basically out of touch with reality as well, so how are we supposed to stop what's happening??? People who are generally hateful live in their own world.

But now I see. All we have to do is wait for them to piss off the right people, then watch as their delusional mess swirls down the toilet. I feel a little better . . . Kinda.

I think I need to get off the internet for a while. This is all too much.

As seemingly dumb as it is, I think it really helps when minority Dems can be the leaders on bills like this. If white dems take up the "non woke" position they get thrown on the conservative side so fast it is almost hopeless, whereas people of color have at least a little bit of traction just by virtue of their presumed status within the "woke" hierarchy. Not always and not immediately, but it does feel like hope to me. Showing the diversity of the GC-leaning community as opposed to TRAs is important.

Would interesting to know what the Whip Clyburn thinks of this. He’s the king of South Carolina. I don’t see this guy proposing a bill that runs counter to the President’s policies without Clyburn’s okay.

Well that's really interesting! Wonder of 'trans' stuff is going to become like abortion - an effective state's rights issues along heavy ideological lines.

Not if the Equality Act passes it won’t be which is why it is imperative that we oppose it with everything we’ve got

If I had a Twitter account, I'd respond with something like, "Finally a Democrat who remembers that locking people into gender stereotypes is regressive and harmful. Women can present with "masculine" traits and still be women. Men can present with "feminine" traits and still be men. Minors shouldn't be allowed to have this surgery, and nobody should need to feel like they have to transition to match a gender stereotype."

I am surprised this came from Dems. It's a signal that some people in power are starting to listen to us.

Just a state senator though. I hope a Democrat congress person will jump off the trans train at some point

Hallelujah!!! FINALLY a Democrat speaks up...we can't have Cindy Hyde-Smith and Ted Cruz being the only people speaking up on this.

As Black Southerners start to take more power in Southern states and more Dems get elected in the deep South, I think we might have more balance on the left finally. (Though this once again puts the burden of "fixing" our political system on the backs of Black people, and especially women.) Northern white liberal Dems have no idea what it means to be a Democrat in the South, they just want those votes. Hopefully they'll have to face reality sooner than later and learn to negotiate with the less crazy moderate wing of the party. (Or they'll just expect the Black democrats to play ball and shut up, which is maybe more realistic sadly.)
