(This is just a bit of musing I should've typed out and edited instead of writing out like spoken word, but I figured I'd keep and post it anyway.)
There is no movement to trans women over 40-50. There's no big push to get us to explore our gender identity. No attempt to medicalize us out of fear of menopause (it would be very, very easy, you'd think, to talk women who are often being pressured into having hysterectomies ANYWAY to just go for it, be a man!). Not the way younger women and girls are being sold a lie over fear of puberty. Women over a certain age are abandoned in this regard.
We are and have always been expendable once we age, once society stopped valuing us as caregivers past our fertility (which wasn't all that long ago). We're just "Karens" now. No one has an issue wondering what the gender of women over a certain age is, we're undeniably women. Women with a snort of disgust. If all of us can change our sex, then of course women in this demographic can; no one urges us to. Very few of us ever toy with the idea.
Women over a certain age were raised to see sex and gender as one in the same, a binary; to this, the world responds by branding us as "TERF" and witch, Karen and bitch. Before we even speak; as if they know their tactics tend to fall flat with us. Only the "TERF" is new.
The only pressure is to accept, accept, accept and cheerlead everyone on. An across the board "don't be a Karen, you expendable wench!" That's our binary as we age. I wonder if this will change?
Women of a certain age are simply out of f*cks, and everyone knows it.
