Which is weird to me. The pope has made his opinion on transgender pretty clear (okay, not really as clear as this student has made his, but he has said something on the matter) so you'd think a Catholic school would do what their highest boss says ... wouldn't they?

But well, "woman" used to be clearly defined, too. If a penisperson can be a woman, then I guess someone who believes that penispeople can be women can also be a Catholic.

There's practically a damn committee dedicated to misinterpreting the pope.

"I don't want you to go to hell." And "What you are doing is bad for you." And "I know people treat you poorly." And "I love you and want you to stop."

We are in such a black and white society that they can't imagine someone possibly having compassion for someone and also admonishing them for sinning.

Makes me wonder why they didn't try and interpret Rowling as agreeing with them. Might have been better for them in the long run. (I mean, they did delude themselves that she was for males in women's spaces for a long time despite Hogwarts dormitories being explicitly sex segregated. But they changed their strategy pretty quickly when she liked a feminist post)

There's a woke "Catholic School" in NYC that made headline for abolishing Christmas, like staff and students had to adopr Newspeak and not say Christmas, or mother and father. Forgot what woke words they told people to use instead. And to not celebrate Christmas but winter solstice or some shit. 🤷‍♀️

Would they modify Hail Marys and the Lord's Prayer?

I would imagine being a Catholic school they have a decent number of students attending that come from Catholic families that would teach them those prayers. Some student would tell their parents about changing words around. Some sects take specific wording very seriously.

But what do they call the priest, if they can’t use Father? I can’t imagine any priest would be happy with a woke term. And then it’s pretty hypocritical if they can’t use the word father for an actual father, but can for a priest. Same with nuns for Mother/Sister.

What about Mary, can she be the mother of Christ, or just his parent? Is it now Parent, Son, and the Holy Spirit? Christ on a bike

For those of you who are not familiar with the Canadian school system, I just wanted to point out that here in Ontario (and in about half of the rest of the country, too), Catholic school boards are (unbelievably) publically funded. So, this is not a private school, in case that matters to you (it does to me).

Yes - there’s any number of private schools, and some of them are religious (along with Montessori, Waldorf, and then the old-school rich kid style ones). And then the publicly funded options are normal public, separate (Catholic), French immersion, French first language, and French Catholic.

I hate that trans individuals can say who makes them "upset" and get institutional support in avoiding that person, but women and girls saying what makes them feel unsafe are told they're bigots.

What he expressed isn't even a religious belief...it's a biological fact. In any event, Canada isn't representing the catholic church accurately.

I feel (lol) very sad that they have to use religion for this belief. I’m more live and let live but the more the trans community treats people like this the worse the backlash is going to get.

I think Catholic schools are the most likely to be safe, but just the name "Catholic school" doesn't make them safe from this!
