This is a women-centered, radical feminist oriented circle to discuss gender from a critical, feminist perspective.
The Sitewide Rules and Sitewide Guidelines are both enforced here. Please read them before posting!
This circle is especially for discussions about gender and transgender ideology/politics. Please use /o/WomensLiberation is for discussions about other feminist topics. /o/Activism is for calls to action, including petitions and fundraisers, and /o/FeministEvents is for posting events.
This circle is focused on articles, news articles, and discussion posts.

Feminism is the movement to liberate women from patriarchy. We stand up for the rights of women to control our own bodies as individuals and to control women-only spaces as a class.
Women are adult human females. We do not believe that men can become women by 'feeling' like women or 'identifying' as women. We condemn the erasure of females and female-only spaces, the silencing of critical thinking, the cancelling of feminists and critics, the denial of biological reality and of sex-based oppression. We oppose the 'cotton ceiling' and the pressure on lesbians to have sex with men. Women are oppressed to exploit their biological sex characteristics, and women have a right to a movement that is about their own liberation from that oppression. We resist the redefinition of both "women" and "feminism" to make them serve men.
"Women do not decide at some point in adulthood that they would like other people to understand them to be women, because being a woman is not an ‘identity.’ Women’s experience does not resemble that of men who adopt the ‘gender identity’ of being female or being women in any respect. The idea of ‘gender identity’ disappears biology and all the experiences that those with female biology have of being reared in a caste system based on sex." –Sheila Jeffreys, Gender Hurts
"Men often react to women’s words—speaking and writing—as if they were acts of violence; sometimes men react to women’s words with violence. So we lower our voices. Women whisper. Women apologize. Women shut up. Women trivialize what we know. Women shrink. Women pull back. Most women have experienced enough dominance from men—control, violence, insult, contempt—that no threat seems empty." –Andrea Dworkin, Intercourse

Oh I definitely know that.
But I'm done cutting someone/something out just because they don't agree with me on every single issue. I'll never PAY for Babylon Bee or donate $$$, but I'll read/share their ridiculous TRA satire.
I would argue that they also don't agree with us on this issue. "Sex roles should be followed instead of chosen gender roles" is not in agreement with "abolish any sex and/or gender roles". This concept is buried in the punchline of any joke they make.
I didn't read the lawnmowing article as a sign that sex roles should be followed. It seemed more about the absurdity of tying biological sex to behavior.
Yeah, but the difference between giving birth (something only women can do, physically) and mowing the lawn (stereotyped behavior) was not acknowledged in that article, and I suspect it's bcause they don't really get the difference.
I can't do the cluster b black and white splitting that the internet has tried to train us to do. I demand nuance, dammit.
I miss humor too much to care honestly .
No one is on our side. Jeff Bezos Washington Post ? The NY Times ? Or should I choose Huff Post TRA central .
At this point religion is no worse than ideology to me. They are identical and they both hate actual women.
If the conservatives are the only ones left peddling humor I’ll take what I can get for free.
I agree with this. I honestly just want to laugh sometimes, you know? At this point I have a pretty good bullshit meter and can pick and choose what I take in.
Me too. I think I woke up around 2016 and started realizing that all was not what it seems and a lot of what I called facts my whole life (and I spent a long ass time in college haha) had agendas behind it.
I was also a journalist in my younger days (journalist is a strong word, I wrote for a lot of tiny publications around the world) so same on BS meter.
I see the angles and remain skeptical of all sources equally!
This. I'm sick and tired of all the dour seriousness of everything. It seems to me younger folks don't even have or know any sense of humor. I seriously think this is a contributing cause to their high rate of depression. The Babylon Bee isn't even a serious publication. They make fun of themselves and conservatives too. It is ok to chill and laugh sometimes, even if the jokes are at our own expenses, when the time and place is appropriate. I don't need a satire magazine making funny jokes to be on my side.
Slow 👏 👏 👏
I just post their stuff because I think it's funny. They are definitely not on our side with regards to other issues. But The Onion has gone woke, and it's not like there are any other humor sites calling out the insanity.
The Onion is utterly pathetic. Last I looked there wasn't one headline that gave me a guffaw and they didn't even bother writing articles anymore. Very sad.
They do have the occasional good one, but its very rare.

Most of these "satire" sites have been struggling for years because reality is crazier than anything they can think up.
They also struggle because the "woke" has deemed everything off limits to humor.
I remember that one!
It's a satire site, and a conservative one at that. Their purpose is entertainment, not activism. Does it matter if they are "on our side?"
Yes, because every click = advertising dollars in their pocket.
Use an ad blocker or don't click.
She has a point on the traffic stats. The more traffic , the more advertisers so we indirectly contribute to that. Some ads may be pay per view vs pay per click.
But...humor. Rare these days.
I think it does matter, it doesn't help women to argue that the only reason gender is harmful is that traditional sex roles should be followed instead.
There's a huge difference between laughing at a single joke and condoning everything else on a site, or for that matter that an individual has said or thought.
Not everyone on the site shares the exact same opinions, so not every post on this site will be something you'll like or agree with. Why not post more of what you think would be helpful or "on our side," instead of just complaining about other people's posts?
That's why I made my own post for it
It doesn’t , this is Gender Critical Circle , most women on this circle will read it irrespective of political spectrum . I honestly think you posting this article here doesn’t make much sense because this circle is dedicated to critique Gender ideology .
If you are from US , you should know that a media or a publication with a central view on issues is very tough to find , articles/News channels will be either right or left leaning .
Since no left leading channel produces content which critiques the gender ideology , ask yourself in this scenario should we keep in the contempt towards a right leaning publication which addresses the issue ? Be critical of their other views but don’t say they are no allies , because in reality nobody is our ally left or right .
This post would have made much more sense in women’s healthcare circle
As mod of /o/WomensHealthLounge I want to just jump in here for clarity. This post would not be appropriate for the health circle, which is a support circle and is not set up for posts on intra radfem disagreements on tactics or similar debates. We have other circles for political focused discourse.
Even if you don't agree with the sentiment, some of those headlines are pretty funny. You don’t have to agree with a joke to see the humor in it.
Also, we can't be picky about allies when most of the mainstream left has abandoned us
I think it’s important to always remember that agreeing on one topic does not equate allyship and we should definitely be cognizant of that fact that who we publicly align with on this one issue can most certainly hinder other issues that we try to overcome in the long run. This is not about the BabylonBee specifically but more so just a general statement. The trans cult is just one facet of the war on women.
I like to laugh when someone calls out Woke Inc. -- I don't agonize over who it was.
That doesn't mean I'm their new best friend. I also have agency. If someone links to Vice, for example, I ask for an archive or don't click.
Conservative Christians are in no way allies. They uphold the gender roles that young women are cutting body parts off to escape. They are still at the root of this problem.
I disagree. The punchline to all these jokes is that abortion = murder. It's far more weary than humorous.
Every time I see posts here from Babylon Bee I get really annoyed. Yeah yeah, cute sarcastic headlines about gender nonsense... but please remember that they only mock gender because they think that everyone should follow their assigned sex roles.
(Posted here instead of radfemmery because it's not really a meme, it's a critical comment.)
Thanks, I hate to see this website posted here so much. And it isn't as if they were liberal conservative, the founder of the website is far-right. Right-wing populism is extremely popular in Europe right now and that's because they know how to speak to the average person. We are playing their game by sharing those articles.
I get it. I really do. The trouble is, who is? If we only ever posted stuff from sources that were actually on our side, this website would be awfully empty.
If my memory serves, the Celts often banned satirists from speaking at gatherings where political decisions were being made, because they were on no one's side really, but mainly there to get a reaction. Satire is a powerful, double-edged weapon.
Babylon Bee is not shy about being on the side of traditional US conservatives
The Celts thing is very interesting--thanks for bringing it up! Off to go on an internet search worm hole now.
Fucking thank you. I cannot stand that ridiculous, proudly anti-woman website.
Who is on our side? Seriously, when saying they aren't our ally - who is? We have no side. We have no allies. Who are we allowed to post about? Which entertainment and media sources are acceptable?
Seriously.
I know they are not. Who is, though? Even many women are not on our side. I can still think they are funny sometimes, wrong sometimes and unfunny other times.
