So, Barnaby Dixon is a puppet designer with a youtube channel that has over a million subscribers. He recently released a gender critical video in which he interviews Sasha Ayad, a professional child psychologist. The video is about children transitioning.

The video is 20 mins long but a few of the points made in the video include …

Some trans kids change their mind about transitioning. https://twitter.com/BarnabyJDixon/status/1400143713800704001

The false dichotomy of “transition or suicide” is unethical and dangerous. https://twitter.com/BarnabyJDixon/status/1400450731602169858

We don’t need to validate everything a trans kid says. https://twitter.com/BarnabyJDixon/status/1400240581578743813

Unfortunately, it turns out a lot of Barnaby’s audience is made up of TRAs. The comments on Twitter and Youtube and completely full of …

“I’m so disappointed.” “You better apologise.” “This is disturbing.” “Why would you interview this psycho?” “Please interview an actual trans person.”

Barnaby doesn’t need to interview a trans person for the same reason he doesn’t need to interview a flat-earther or an anti-vaxxer. Being trans does not make anyone inherently more qualified to speak on this subject. Sasha is a professional psychologist and it’s insulting that so many people dismiss her qualifications purely because she’s gender critical.

And now they’re angry at Barnaby because, on Twitter, he replied to a “transphobe” and no one else. The “transphobe” was me. I just said the video was good and he thanked me. I imagine it was because I was one of the only people who said something positive about the video. But it just goes to show how stubborn they are with their “how dare you ignore us!” type replies.

Despite the backlash, Barnaby hasn’t backed down and I’m so happy he hasn’t. It’s just really great that such a popular and creative person is normalising being gender critical and giving a platform to a really awesome woman. Also, the fact the video was realised at the beginning of pride month makes things extra amusing.

I’m going to watch and leave some support. I’m surprised to see such a large channel covering this. 😆
