Ugh, I'm so sorry. All of that sounds awful. I think the person is wrong about insurance, though - your IUD should be covered. That's the least this country can fucking do for women.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 46 points (+46|-0)

I agree it should be. The National Women's Law Center agreed with me too, and then they stopped responding to my emails when Cigna didn't follow through. It's still in appeal (supposedly), but they are jerking me around and have been for months.

[–] TerfSedai 51 points (+51|-0)

I know it's exhausting, but keep fighting it. This is small potatoes compared to your situation, but when I had my IUD placed, I called my insurance first to make sure that everything would be 100% covered.

After the procedure, I got a surprise $80 "consultation fee." I called insurance again and referenced all of the previous calls I had made, and surprise, surprise: the consultation fee was dropped.

Please make sure to get a reference number for all calls you make to insurance -- they record all these calls and they have to provide you with a reference number at the end of each call. This can be really helpful when you inevitably have to follow up on an issue. Good luck!

(I used to work in health insurance and it fucking sucks -- hope you get this completely illegal fee rescinded!)

Thank you for this. It has been stressing me out so much dealing with it. I will keep fighting it. I'm not going to back down on this. Fuck them.

Thank you for the support and encouragement!

If they made a mistake when putting it in, shouldn't they correct that for free? I am baffled, but I don't know the American system very well.

[–] NotCis 27 points (+27|-0)

Others may know more, but there is no way you should be charged $7000 for this. That sounds like an error on face. Again, sorry you're going through this hell. It really sucks.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 24 points (+24|-0)

It had to be surgerically removed so I had general anesthesia and the whole bit. Very expensive unfortunately.

However, I was lucky that it was near my uterus and the hormones in it were still preventing pregnancy. If I'd had the non hormonal one I'd likely have found out there was a problem when I became pregnant...

[–] Liandra 16 points (+16|-0)

I am not the OP of the thread but I concur with your sentiment towards her. Apart from the fact that it shouldn't cost 7000 Dollar to remove an IUD, she should not be charged if the clinic/doctor made a mistake.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 17 points (+17|-0)

Do be very grateful you don't have to deal with our healthcare system.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 14 points (+14|-0)

I would have thought that would be the case also, but no. The thing i signed said "in very rare cases the IUD can be shoved through the wall of the uterus..." so I guess that means I accepted the risk. It's ridiculous.

[–] Liandra 10 points (+10|-0)

You are having the worst week :( - at least it is Friday soon?

Maybe if you get a lawyer they can write a letter for you? Does that work to impress companies?

[–] DebraKadabra 49 points (+49|-0)

The fact that there is a platform for garnering sympathy at work for "uwu" and not for actual medical emergencies is horrifying.

I know I shouldn't scroll through the Nextdoor app because it just makes me mad, but I'll say I notice a similar phenomena: There was a notorious person looking for sympathy (and a snitch) because an anonymous neighbor called the police on them for xyz. Of course they have all of their excuses and minimizing of the problem to air on the app, and of course damn near every comment was in their support, including pleas to "be kind" and to "talk to each other."

But in reality, everyone over there on that block is sick of their shit and belligerence. Those people aren't going to weigh in on the app because the same ol' people jump in to ask everyone to be kind, insinuating anyone who has a problem with xyz are hateful.

The ability to post comments leaves an inaccurate impression of what common sentiment actually is. I can't believe I long for the days of water cooler gossip. You could just speak your mind and while you might get into some trouble for it, at least it wasn't propped up there forever to be dissected by all the virtue-signalers.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 7 points (+7|-0)

Omg your first paragraph... I hadn't thought about it that way and you are so right.

Thank you for your message. What is uwu?

[–] sconsolato 6 points (+6|-0)

I think is some kind of cute, "quirky" anime thing? I could not tell you what it means exactly, but I see if often, always from the same kinds of people. makes my physically ill.

[–] DebraKadabra 4 points (+4|-0)

It's supposed to be a cutesy anime face, and it's been used by these trans dorks, often to express their feelings of validation euphoria.

[–] spacykate 3 points (+3|-0)

uwu is supposed to be a face like a person closing their eyes and making a w with its mouth.

So very sorry for all that you are going through. It really is an outrageous indignity to women to have these males imitate us.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 16 points (+16|-0)

It really is. Forcing us to recognize them as women too. We'd never do that to any other oppressed group. Can you imagine people being forced to accept their colleagues in black face?

[–] FFS 12 points (+13|-1)

I can’t imagine forcing this on others either. It is dehumanizing.

[–] FedUp12345 20 points (+20|-0)

I wouldn’t pay it. Full stop. You shouldn’t have been charged to begin with. Fight it tooth and nail. If you lose and you’re in a secure place financially and can afford for your credit to tank some, don’t pay it. Worse case scenario it will get sent to collections. Still don’t pay it. It will drop off your credit report entirely after 5-7 years.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 16 points (+16|-0)

I'm thinking I'll send them a letter that says "I told you before the procedure that it was against federal law for the insurance company to charge me a deductible. I showed you the applicable portion of the ACA to this case. You will not collect a dime from me. If you want money get it from the the company who owes it to you. Contact the company who's CEO made $80 million dollars in 2020 and used profits to unapologetically support insurrectionists." And include Cigna's PO addeess.

[–] FedUp12345 10 points (+10|-0)

That’s a good idea. It’s possible that because you’re a woman they might be thinking they can pull one over on you. Show them they’re dead wrong! I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. A little “reminder” that they’re breaking the law might get them to change their tune.

[–] sconsolato 10 points (+10|-0)

THIS ✊🏽

refusal based on principle alone.

[–] FedUp12345 9 points (+9|-0) Edited

Exactly. If you do this your credit will only take an initial hit and it can always be rebuilt, even with collections still on there, OP

[–] Ishahchai 18 points (+18|-0)

OMG. I am seething for you. And feeling utterly disappointed in the NWLC, too.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 5 points (+5|-0)

They were awesome earlier and only haven't responded to my last desperate email stating I had no where else to turn. I will try them again. So far their emails were basically "we agree". I still have appeals outstanding.

[–] Stealthygal 11 points (+11|-0)

OMG my rage for your health issues is PROFOUND

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 7 points (+7|-0)

Thank you. This is exactly what I needed ❤ just nice to feel seen and heard

[–] sconsolato 6 points (+6|-0)

sometimes that makes all the difference. being reminded that you're not he one who is in the wrong. we see you. ♥️

[–] GenieHollaGist13 11 points (+11|-0)

Wow, fuck all of that. I am so sorry!!!!! I hope this shit blows over or more people speak up; mobs have a tendency to turn on themselves when they've eaten their way through "easy" targets.

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 4 points (+4|-0)

Absolutely. Once you see it you can't unsee it. I'm obsessed lately.

[–] pennygadget 8 points (+8|-0)

I am sorry you have to deal with this. I don't know if I could contain my urge to blow up at him on the slack channel even if it meant getting fired.

And I'll bet your job's insurance plan has no issues covering your TIM co-worker's unneccessary hormones and fake boobs. While actual females have to pay out the ass for basic reproductive care! But we STILL have to pretend that they suffer more than any female ever has!

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 6 points (+6|-0)

I just finished my master's degree that my company paid for through a private university. I will have to pay them back if I quit or get fired within 12 months of reimbursement. So unfortunately I really can't get fired right now. I'd be incomeless and I'd owe them a shit ton of money. It was very hard to bite my tongue today.

[–] [Deleted] 2 points (+2|-0)

Wow. I'm sorry that you are having to deal with womanhood being denigrated in front of your face for fear of losing your employment. It shouldn't be like this. I'm sorry that this drama is playing out with your livelihood in the balance. As for the misplaced IUD, I'm sure there's a class action suit or two for that? And The idea that you'd have to pay for them to correct a mistake they made, at great expense to your body, your health, and your reproductive system... That's fucked. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I would not pay that and they would get a letter and a call from me about it threatening litigation for their mistake that could have led to much worse injury

[–] Tailz1012 [OP] 1 points (+1|-0)

Yeah I've done all those things. The docs say I'm SOL because I signed a consent form that lists this as a potential outcome. Lawyers agree and will not take the case on contingency because it is unwinnable (just ask the many women who nearly died from misplaced IUDs and still couldn't get any kind of settlement).
