"Soon after the video began to go viral in transphobic corners of the internet, members of the trans community began to raise questions about it—chief among them why the video cuts out as the woman marches downstairs to confront this person she’s allegedly seen, conveniently ending before the trans woman she’s so angry about is shown."

The woman is predictably decent and chooses NOT to film a video in an area where other women are naked. Slate is perplexed why anyone would do this.

Fake women > real women

“Believe all women” except the ones actually born that way

[–] Texture 62 points (+62|-0)

It's illegal to film in that space. She could have gotten in legal trouble.

[–] hedy 46 points (+46|-0)

To illustrate the extent to which this is illegal:

"(a)Whoever, in the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States, has the intent to capture an image of a private area of an individual without their consent, and knowingly does so under circumstances in which the individual has a reasonable expectation of privacy, shall be fined [according to multiple sources, up to $100,000] under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both."

https://www.congress.gov/bill/108th-congress/senate-bill/1301

Dear Slate: this stuff isn't hard to find.

[–] Mother-of-Rats 10 points (+10|-0)

Yeah but taking 2 seconds to google something would require journalistic integrity and…well, you know, times are tough, global warming, covid, other generic excuse

[–] Ash94 34 points (+34|-0)

The women ran out to the lobby still wet in robes. They even said "he's still in there, I'm not going back".

[–] Noonefromnowhere 16 points (+16|-0)

This needs to be a letter writing campaign to Slate's editorial board.

[–] nobitary Brainoeba 59 points (+59|-0)

Oooh, "transphobic corners of the internet.."

Internet is now a place. In the middle there are the transes, and all around, tucked into corners, are people who still have a grasp of reality.

[–] hedy 33 points (+33|-0)

Leave it to men to find new ways to define women in terms of men, "transphobic" being the latest. Can't be pro-women, that doesn't center men!

Slate sees a black woman opting not to film naked women and decides the only possible reason is that she's... far-right? Because it's more plausible that white nationalists have their own bespoke multiracial theatre troupe they can use for elaborate conspiracies, than that a woman would be angry at a man flashing a child?

"she has a problem with men exposing their penises in a spa, but won't film the exposed penis and distribute it en masse? hmmm. SUSPICIOUS."

So the women in the background demanding refunds, and other women confirming the incident in part two of the video where they are speaking with management… didn’t happen? They are on film. One woman comes close to tears. The Asian woman at the register getting her money says she will never return. Are they also liars? The TIM is the only non-liar here? How convenient.

Lurking TIMs- this situation will continue to play out and you can’t run from it forever. Supporting males invading women’s locker rooms doesn’t sound like the right side of history as you keep screeching. Not recognizing or empathizing that women want spaces without penises is the most male shit in the world

[–] [Deleted] 68 points (+68|-0)

Exactly. And different women have complained about this happening in Wi Spa on multiple separate occasions. Are they all in on it? The deniers start to sound like the most misogynist defenders of serial rapists who claim that the victims that are speaking out about their abuse were all colluding for some nefarious reason or other. It plays into disgusting misogynistic stereotypes of cunning devious women who are out to secure the downfall of innocent men. Fuck it I’m writing slate a letter, I’m so pissed

[–] chromodorisrex 36 points (+36|-0)

Do it. What a joke. They’re demanding we not see that the emperor has no clothes. And they’re calling the women who saw the emperor swinging his dick around liars. How progressive!

[–] Feministunderyrbed 27 points (+27|-0)

I was thinking of renewing Slate Plus after they got rid of Lavery, but I guess my transphobic money isn’t good enough so I’ll stay here in my transphobic corner.

[–] CeruleanPisces 16 points (+16|-0)

Yeeeess channel that anger into something!! I love writing letters, I hope it makes you feel better and has an impact on its reader

[–] Texture 33 points (+33|-0) Edited

Seriously. Supporting naked males as they expose themselves to and view naked female children is the hill they want to fucking die on?! Which is something not enough people are bringing up by the way- those children were naked at (what is SUPOSSED to be) a family friendly nude spa and their bodies were seen by that man.

[–] Genevieve 25 points (+25|-0)

The TIM that hasn't even spoken up is the only non-liar. So, the person that supposedly doesn't even "exist" gets more benefit of the doubt than the actual numerous women speaking out. It's demoralizing and so disrespectful.

They are blatantly telling women that their reality doesn't matter because a man might have been inconvenienced while literally being naked in front of unsuspecting women and young girls, and that's what's wrong.

[–] Fredrica 6 points (+6|-0)

He can't speak up, probably because he IS an AGP, has stuff all over the Internet about his proclivities, fantasies, etc.

[–] Ash94 10 points (+10|-0)

They are rolling the dice atp, gambling with the safety of women and girls. I'm so infuriated and scared for women.

Why claim it's a hoax? I thought the point WAS to have mixed sex changing rooms? That's what they have been pushing for.

while no children appear on the video

There is literally a child in the video.

[–] Carthimundia 46 points (+46|-0)

Right? The law in California means that males can go naked into female only areas. This is a direct consequence of self ID. So what’s the hoax here ? Are they claiming a TIM would never go to a naked female only spa ?

[–] orchidea 28 points (+28|-0)

"It never happens... But if it did there would be nothing wrong with it... But it definitely doesn't happen... Pay no attention to the man in the wig dangling his junk in front of your kids, he is just a figment of your bigoted imagination... But also totally cute and valid?!!"

These guys can never get their story straight. Which makes sense, or they wouldn't be TIMs.

[–] tahmahrah 4 points (+4|-0)

At this point I think they're just testing the waters, trying to see what kind of outrageous lies and fabricated bullshit they can push out in their articles and how much of their readership will take it as gospel and set a wildfire on Twitter and FB. In other words, they're seeing just how stupid and malleable people are, so they can then go ahead and see if they can go full-on Fox News and straight brainwash people.

That or they're that idiotic themselves, or just morally bankrupt.

[–] NotCis 3 points (+3|-0)

Exactly! Why not defend this policy if it's so goddamn great? Why act like the video is a scam?

[–] radicalacceptance 69 points (+69|-0) Edited

The Narcissist's Prayer

That didn't happen.

And if it did, it wasn't that bad.

And if it was, that's not a big deal.

And if it is, that's not my fault.

And if it was, I didn't mean it.

And if I did, you deserved it.

[–] crispycherrypie 60 points (+60|-0)

The narrative sure went from "transwomen are allowed to be naked around children" to "all those women demanding refunds on video are acting and the incident never happened" in a hurry.

[–] [Deleted] 31 points (+31|-0)

Yeah, and in the same breath the claim it’s a hoax, also re-assert their belief in self ID and for TIMs to use whatever spaces they want… it’s bizarre: they’re trying to cover two bases at once and expect us not to realise

[–] VeggieAnnie 23 points (+23|-0)

That's what I don't understand, how claiming its a hoax helps their narrative. Their narrative is that self id is ok. Their narrative is that conservatives pearl clutch. How is claiming that a self id event (and subsequent 'conservative ' backlash) is a hoax at all necessary?

[–] Jellyfishes 10 points (+10|-0)

How is claiming that a self id event (and subsequent 'conservative ' backlash) is a hoax at all necessary?

Maybe they noticed saying kids should see dick would make them lose support.

[–] crispycherrypie 16 points (+16|-0)

Like someone else posted, we're at step one of the Narcissist's Prayer.

These people should consider a career as politicians, because they're quite good at spin.

[–] NotASupportHuman 11 points (+11|-0) Edited

Their brain power is equally as strong as their 'womaning' i.e. nonexistent.

Edited for spelling error

[–] Hermione 23 points (+23|-0)

They must have gotten too much pushback from saying it was ok for men to whip their tackle out and flap it around children.

Which is kind of a hard sell to be fair, because none of them would put up with it themselves.

So the “nothing to see here, never happened, never does happen, so it should be allowed to happen, because it won’t happen, you’re a crazy bitch, look! a bunny!!!” argument works better.

[–] Fredrica 7 points (+7|-0)

Adult women don't want and shouldn't have to see male genitalia either.

[–] Hermione 3 points (+3|-0)

Same here. I don’t want to see strange men’s dicks, or any man’s dick under most circumstances come to think about it.

People cater to the “don’t make me feel less than a real woman lest I get dysphoria so badly I commit suicide” schtick,

It’s really just “if I’m not allowed to; show my naked penis and be around naked women and girls, use the women’s restroom, shelters, services, have sex with lesbians, break their records and skulls in sports, be allowed in the little girls’ toilets as their teacher , go on camping trips with little girls without their parents knowledge or permission , have all my desired surgeries covered, be referred to with whichever pronouns I want, take places on women shortlists, breastfeed someone’s baby, simulate birth , have funding put into getting uterus transplants be allowed to be called “mother”, let my kink fly in all places, never be called out for my shit on Twitter without the offender losing their livelihoods and safety” I.will.kill.myself.

[–] Yemaya 22 points (+22|-0)

The very first argument was that “a trans woman would never expose their penis!” Now look where we at.

[–] Texture 14 points (+14|-0)

I've seen someone claim the woman requesting the refund did so because Angel was making a scene.

[–] Hyacinth 9 points (+9|-0) Edited

It exactly like "Sandy Hook was a hoax" But from the people who denounced that.

That article is a gynophobic hoax. So there.

[–] SulphuricMirror 8 points (+8|-0)

Irony being the website is mostly aimed at women, if I'm not mistake, so with this and other trans fuelled woman hate they'll inevitably publish, they'll just alienate their own userbase over time. Dummies.

[–] ArmyofMe 38 points (+38|-0)

I am furious. There was literally a child in the video. Multiple people have said they saw nude males.

[–] Miss_misandrist 37 points (+37|-0)

"but these events show the real dangers of an increasingly extremist anti-trans backlash. In this case, an uncorroborated suggestion that a trans woman was using a women’s space ignited a protest that resulted in violence and led to a woman being hospitalized."

So a protest, which is people's right, is the reason a TRA stabbed someone? So the people just standing with signs are the danger, not TRA committing violence against them? How do they write this and think "I'm definitely the good one here".

[–] SulphuricMirror 15 points (+15|-0)

The woman hospitalized (after being stabbed) was in fact protesting against men shoving their genitals into female only spaces, but they won't dwell on that, will they?

[–] bluestocking 34 points (+34|-0)

Note that the writer of this article is the same TIF who was spewing hate about detransitioners on Twitter some months ago, at the same time she was talking about how she was going to interview several detranstioners and write an article about them. And has the audacity to also claim that she is honest and not biased and only writing things based on facts!

Someone on Twitter suggested that the police have said no such thing about this being a hoax, that the source was a TRA, but I can't confirm that myself.

[–] IrishTheFrenchie 20 points (+20|-0)

They keep saying the police investigated and said it’s a hoax. When I ask fir the police report they apparently have a copy of, they go silent.

[–] dixiechick547 3 points (+3|-0)

What would there be for the police to investigate? Under California law what he did was perfectly legal. Presumably the police would tell anyone calling that fact. No one from the spa denied the presence of a man. Isn't there a video where someone says that he's still in the sauna?

[–] lucrecia 13 points (+13|-0)

Yeah, so far I've only found random twitter claims denouncing her based on the profile of an organisation that has subsequently given her a mic, but not seen anything official; seems like people are guessing based on a lot of circumstantial stuff, while simultaneously claiming that if it was real, it'd all be fine anyway and they support men's right to flash kids.

[–] lucrecia 28 points (+28|-0)

The dishonesty is interesting. The details she leaves in, the details she omits or obfuscates... for someone claiming to believe this interpretation, she doesn't seem at all confident about it.

[–] Hermione 24 points (+24|-0)

Didn’t the staff at Wi Spa acknowledge that he was there in the video?

I know slate is definitely skewed, but I had no idea they’d flat out lie. Unless it was Slate that had the “Secret Internet of TERFs”? article by that dipshit writer who kept writing about Jake Gyllanhal and was told by her management to cool it, showing the epitome of white privilege by keeping a job when she had no talent, then getting another job for which she… had not talent or integrity?

You know, I hate to say it, but I feel like good journalism is mostly coming out of conservative circles nowadays.

I’d say the leftist writers were great when tearing about Trump and exposing big businesses, but even then they did a piss poor job of highlighting what Republican voters would have cared about to bring change.

[–] Veneficca 15 points (+15|-0)

Evan has been slowly disintegrating over this for years. She used to have a GC streak in her back in the day. Now she polices comments on every trans article and puts ideology over facts.

I sometimes suspect her own new identity hasn't worked out like expected and this is her overcompensation.

[–] worried19 11 points (+11|-0)

I didn't realize this was Evan Urquhart.

https://slate.com/human-interest/2014/07/a-butch-lesbian-rejects-a-non-binary-identity.html

That was back in 2014. I also suspect that transition did not go as expected. We already know that Urquhart's relationship suffered.

https://slate.com/human-interest/2016/12/staying-married-through-a-gender-transition.html

And who knows what health problems or other relationship issues have cropped up since then.

[–] Ishahchai 9 points (+9|-0)

At first, I couldn’t understand how a butch lesbian could go from that first article and the second. Then I read where her wife mentioned that she was spending all her time on Reddit. It all made sense.

I feel so much sadness for the woman who wrote the first article and despair that she became the woman who wrote the second article.
