The willful idiocy of this article is breathtaking! It misrepresents women who were either lesbian or who tried to pass as men because they (as women) had limited rights and freedoms. The writer claims they were trans. And there's this:

Another such case was James Allen, a laborer in London who had married a housemaid, Abigail Naylor. In 1829, after Allen was fatally crushed by falling timber, the coroner’s examination of their body revealed that Allen had been assigned female at birth.

How's that? The coroner examined the woman's body and discovered that it was a female body...NO! Rather, the coroner discovered that the woman "had been assigned female at birth." Stupid.

That's that euphemism treadmill for you. Like when people call Nelson Mandela "African American".

Ugh. I hate it when I speak of Blacks around here and some Murrican SJW comes to word police me.

Like, can you get over yourselves !?

American SJWs don't understand that a world exists outside the United States. 🤣

More like assigned female at death. Kinda makes you wonder how the author knew that she was assigned female at birth, though . . . could it be that one inevitably dies as the same sex one is born as? 🤔

If gender is separate from sex, why do they talk about being ‘assigned female/ male’? If ‘no one is saying biological sex isn’t real’ (despite the fact many people now are), why can’t the author just be honest and say this person was female? They contradict themselves so much

"willful idiocy" was the only thing coming to mind reading it

This shit makes me so angry. They have no right to declare that GNC historical women were transgender.

Yet they do and they won't stop. They've claimed Pauli Murray, James Barry, and Jennie Hodgers, among many others. These women are dead and can't speak for themselves, yet TRAs have claimed them. They're making documentaries and writing books for little kids declaring that these were transgender men. A gender critical author was forced to change her book about Barry and turn it into a novel about a fictional character because TRAs attacked her so heavily and the publisher caved to pressure.

If had been born during that time period, I would have disguised myself as a man and lived stealth all my life. It just makes my blood boil to know that modern TRAs would happily declare me to be a trans man rather than a woman caught in a society that did not allow for GNC women to exist.

That's disgusting. What was the book, out of curiosity?

The Cape Doctor by E.J. Levy.

https://nypost.com/2019/03/15/the-pc-censor-target-a-lesbian-author

It was delayed a bunch of times and eventually ended up being released, but the main character is now "Jonathan Perry," not James Barry.

Misogyny and homophobia that forced women to hide who they were and pretend to be men means they were... trans?? Uh, no.

[–] SpatOutTheKoolaid 18 points (+18|-0)

They're doing to historical lesbians what they're currently doing to modern generation of lesbians (only modern kids are medical experiments on top of it).

There's an entire fucking book called True Sex where the author claims that all the historical women depicted were trans men.

"they lacked “male” genitalia because a shark had devoured them on one of their voyages"

I love this example of how grammatically stupid they/ them pronouns are. What got devoured? The genitalia or the woman?

"the coroner’s examination of their body revealed that Allen had been assigned female at birth."

I thought assigning sex on the basis of genitalia was transphobic? So the doctor who assigned her female at birth just happened to guess the same as the coroner about her sex? What are the chances? /S

"All humans have a gender identity, a sense of who they are in terms of gender;"

How exclusive of agender people! /S

This is literally erasing the opression of women from history.

'Oh kids, these women put on a suit and pretended to be men because they secretly had a male soul essence inside! Has nothing to do with the fact that they weren't allowed to vote, date other women, or do literally anything otherwise!'

[–] hedy 6 points (+6|-0)

I still don't know if that's their goal, or they're just fine with it. Either way it's disgusting.

[–] Mmmm_Brains 22 points (+22|-0)

Do they ever think that those women were also finding a way out of oppression? Trying their best to succeed in such a world?Choosing not to be enslaved by a man and trying to protect themselves?

I'm sorry I couldn't finish, how frustrating. To deride us and say the only way we can be different...is to not be women at all. Fuck you fuck the trans movement. You are fucking thieves and oppressors, stealing what's not yours and imposing your rules onto those you stole from. Same old shit huh.

That is old school boomer feminism! This awesome new feminism is all about embracing the fact that men and women are completely different in every way! If women dressed as men to be doctors or sail ships, it was because they were actually dudes. TRAs have made it clear that this is a fact that can't be debated. /S

The fact that a few people in the last several centuries "might well have identified as transgender today" is a pretty poor rebuttal to the undeniable fact that a huge percentage of females are IDing out of womanhood today. But what's really stupid is the contention that it's only "conservative politicians" who can see this trend.

[–] bellatrixbells 8 points (+8|-0)

sigh

The entire world isn't the US, person who wrote this.

I hate this ideology.

How in ever loving hell would they even know what these women thought of their gender? It is beyond arrogance to put the modern notion of being transgender into what people thought in the 18th century. Being transgender would not have even been thought of. Sure they would have had ideas about people being punished for behaving in gender non conforming ways. But these women would not have been holy shit! I am totally a dude!
