Its worth a read.

This quote in particular,

"Still, why should anyone (especially feminist women) object to men wanting to become women? Isn't imitation the highest form of flattery?

Precisely herein lies the “liberal” sexologists’ betrayal of human dignity and integrity: They support the (male) transsexual's claim that he wants to be a woman — when, in fact, what he wants is to be a caricature of the male definition of “femininity.” "

The language in which the reply is framed is crucial — and can never be neutral. The transsexual propagandists claim to transform “women trapped in men's bodies” into “real” women and want then to be accepted socially as females (say, in professional tennis).

Whoop there it is. They would detransition before ever facing genuine discrimination on the basis of sex. Or really if they are personally effected negatively. There are stories upon stories of trans identifying males quitting their very vital estrogen injections because it infers with their sex drive.

The author was an interesting psychiatrist too. He wrote a book called "The Myth of Mental Illness".

I think that he was onto something there. He was rather prophetic, really. Mental illness has become "disease-ified" with the slow but steady creep of treating mental illness from a medical instead of a spiritual or emotional approach. I remember when Prozac hit the scene. Behavioral healthcare changed almost overnight. And a few decades later, damn near everyone is on some sort of psych drug now. (And good luck getting your insurance to cover lengthy and expensive talk therapy.) Cross sex hormones and gender reassignment surgery are simply the next phase of treating mentally distressed people as "patients" instead of human beings...

It's almost a challenge these days to stay off of medications.

I remember reading an interview with Christine Jorgenson that annoyed the hell out of me, even as a teenager. "She" seemed entranced by every male stereotype about women.

An old college boyfriend of mine was an early TERF. We'd gone to see Tootsie, with Dustin Hoffman, and at dinner afterwards, he told me it had made him uncomfortable. Hadn't I noticed it seemed to be saying that a man was better at being a woman than the women characters were? At the time I laughed it off, but now he seems pretty prescient. Later, in the '80s, when we lived together in San Francisco, he complained that a local free clinic seemed to be defining every male who went into counseling who admitted to crying as a trans woman. He knew, I believe, two guys who had bought that bill of goods, then realized it was all a horrible mistake. At least one of them had transitioned surgically.

Wish that old boyfriend was still alive. Would love to hear his thoughts today.

I hadn't seen Tootsie when it came out. I watched it sometime last year and I was kind of horrified at how it THOUGHT it was being very feminist but it was actually SEXIST AS FUCK. There are things which are still funny, but freaking screwball comedies from THE THIRTIES are more progressive and present actual women as far more interesting and fully human.

Exactly! I help curate movie screenings at the library where I work, and we once showed an old comedy with Edgar G. Robinson, THE WHOLE TOWN'S TALKING. One of our 20-something attendees was astounded at the female love interest being more funny, human and street-wise than many women in movies today.

Holy shit. This article should be required reading. Every single issue that exists with the trans movement today is predicted and broken down perfectly. Every single paragraph is a mic drop.

Reading this article you might get the sense that the author, Thomas Szasz, was a pretty unconventional and polarizing figure, and you'd be right.

“I don't change men into women. I transform male genitals into genitals that have a female aspect. All the rest is in the patient's mind ".

Ooh, I love this quote, and what follows. Great.

They support the (male) transsexual's claim that he wants to be a woman — when, in fact, what he wants is to be a caricature of the male definition of “femininity.

A thousand times this
