“I try not to be around her because the whole situation makes me so mad," the swimmer added. "I don’t think Lia is a bad person. She’s very quiet and kind of introverted ... It’s just really hard for me to respect her at all because of what she’s doing to my team and what she’s doing to women in general and not caring.”

She asserted that Thomas evinces a lack of sincerity and empathy toward teammates.

“She laughs about it and mocks the situation," the female swimmer told me. "Instead of caring or showing that she cares about what she’s doing or what she’s doing to her teammates, she’s not sympathetic or empathetic at all. Lia never addressed our team. She never asked if it was OK. She never asked how we felt. She never tried to explain how she feels. She never has said anything to us as a group. She never addressed anything.”

“All she does is make comments to people like, ‘At least I’m still No. 1 in the country,’ and those kinds of cocky things,” she said. “She doesn’t care how all this is affecting us and how this is affecting our relationship to swimming. She doesn’t care, and it makes it really hard to like her.”

... and so and so on, I could quote the entire article.

I'm not surprised. All of this is exactly how I imagined him to be. I also disagree when she says he's not a bad person, but maybe she said that out of fear of transphobia accusations.

He basically has to be narcissistic as hell, cause if he wasn't, he would never have joined the women's team in the first place. Someone with even a bit of empathy and conscientiousness wouldn't be able to do that, out of thoughts for the women and out of the shame of the world seeing his cheating ass.

Most would be hard-pressed to find a woman this shitty, especially in a team situation. Even most men aren't so disgusting. TIMs are truly the worst the male class has to offer.

Narcissistic, overprivileged male asshole comparing himself to a historical POC? Sounds about white.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and make the wild guess that it was, like, probably much harder for Robinson to carve a place for himself in professional baseball at a time of racial segregation than it was for this guy to switch to the women's team.

I also wanted to highlight a few telling quotes, which perfectly sum up the fundamental antagonism between TIMs and women:

"Instead of caring or showing that she cares about what she’s doing or what she’s doing to her teammates, she’s not sympathetic or empathetic at all.”

“She doesn’t care how all this is affecting us and how this is affecting our relationship to swimming.”

“We all went out of our way for her.”

“We’re supposed to respect how she feels, but she doesn’t respect her teammates at all.”

Bottom line: TIMs expect women to bend over backwards to centre their feelings and accommodate their wishes at all times, but do they do the same for us? No, quite the opposite. Anyone who has ever spent time with TIMs knows that respect is never a two-way street for them.

Oh shit, Tesserae_Tali called it! (Is that how you tag users? lol) Of ‘Lia’ Thomas, she speculated:

… he imagines himself as Ruby Bridges, bravely defying bigots and bullies.

Obviously, Ruby Bridges isn’t Jackie Robinson, but the point she was trying to make—that Thomas likely justifies his delusion by fancying himself as the spiritual/political descendant of African-Americans fighting racial segregation—was right on the money. TIMs just can’t resist the race comparison, can they?

I wish these girls would/could stop swimming as a protest. I think there are ways to maintain your scholarship (if you have one), but stop playing on the team.

IIRC ivy league schools don't have sports scholarships, this is just an extracurricular hobby for them.

How is this going to help overall?

I'm tired of seeing these whispered secrets and complete inaction. These women can't seriously expect things to change by doing exactly nothing.

You can't eat your cake and have it too. They need to all quit in protest. How is it even fun or fulfilling at this point? What are they actually gaining by staying in this competition with an obvious cheater?

It's just not worth the price of your dignity and soul.
