Carolyn Burjoski was the teacher whose speech was cut short for being 'problematic' by the school board. She was attempting to speak about some books which she thought were not age-appropriate. They were to do with trans, sexuality and gender material.

She has released a video statement here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gARVp7whNI

I can't believe she is being formally investigated by the school board.

I am glad she is speaking out. Even one of her students commented. It is good that this may result in the message being amplified.

And, seriously, she sounds like the sweetest, most gentle teacher ever.

That comment from her former student was so sweet.

What she's now being put through is outrageous. I hope she will let us know if there's ways to support her.

What are the Canadian GC organizations? Hopefully they can support her through the legal process. Did Canada ever have a legally enshrined right to free speech akin to the US First Amendment? I don't know a lot about how their government is structured. I know C-36 is supposed to silence all political dissent, but is there any legal basis to challenge it?

It's very sad for me to watch this happen to Canada. Like many Americans, I dreamed of moving to Canada to get nationalized healthcare. It seemed like the promised land for almost all my life. Canada got to watch America get put through the wringer during the Trump era... now they're under Tyranny of the Trans. It's so sad to see.

The sex/gender battle is lost for now in Canada, IMO what they need to focus on right now is safeguarding, using the UK model. People who oppose safeguarding look like pedophiles/abusers. Its very difficult to come up with a coherant argument against it. I once got into a Twitter spat with Morgane Ogre about safeguarding and wiped the floor with him.

That is incredible about demolishing Ogre

He ended up whining 'hasnt it occured to you that safeguarding might not mean the same thing in other countries', I retorted 'you've demonstrated it isn't safeguarding, why dont you use the UK model?' and he blocked me.

There's a Canadian Human Rights Campaign. In Quebec we have PDF. I'm not sure about the rest. I get the feeling people are slowly getting out of the haze though. I don't believe she'll have too much trouble getting help. Ontario appears to be pretty woke, but they're also very English at heart I think. They also have a VERY Conservative government right now. And Quebec doesn't seem to keen to pander to TRAs at all right now. Traditional enemies might team up at this point.

Ok, hopefully she can prove the school is violating the Canadian Human Rights Campaign.

Politics makes strange bedfellows. I really hope this teacher doesn't back down. I think finding teachers in each affected country to stand up and fight the system will be really important to winning.

The board is violating the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and also the Ontario Human Rights code.

[Ontario] also have a VERY Conservative government right now.

Ford’s gov’t is pretend conservative. Ford shut down any voices questioning gender ideology. At the beginning of his term, he made sure to silence the Conservative Tanya Granic Allen who got herself elected purely on safeguarding children from gender ideology. Ford also went ahead and re-instated the sex Ed curriculum that teaches kids gender ideology is reality.

Edit: got Tanya’s name wrong.

They exist. The big national one is Cawsbar: https://www.cawsbar.ca

There are smaller, provincial and city-specific radfem and GC organizations, too.

The school board have removed the video but it has been uploaded here; Waterloo Region District School Board, Committee of the Whole Meeting, January 17, 2022 https://rumble.com/vswp7b-waterloo-region-district-school-board-committee-of-the-whole-meeting-januar.html

I'm subbed to her channel. Great comments. I hope she fights this, we need to fight this legally in Canada or nothing will change. The sooner this is challenged, bit by bit, the better.
