Its funny, in literally every other wedding-related AITA thread all the comments are like "it's your wedding, you should do it exactly how you want and make yourself happy! Fuck everyone else!"

I guess that women only get to honor our own opinions and desires when it comes to things that don't upset men.

Anyway, my husband has a cousin who is offended by Amy’s wording.

That is a comically distant acquaintance.

My MIL doesn’t like the uninvited people, and asked them to f*ck off when they asked her to also not attend.

Sounds like a good MIL! Though also does that mean the cousin said to the husband, 'Excuse me, but as your cousin, I would prefer your own mother not attend your wedding'???

EDIT: Oh, parsed it wrong, looks like they said to OP's MIL, 'Excuse me, but speaking as your nephew, would you mind not attending your own son's wedding?'. So still a big pile of ???????????

Glad OP has enough self-respect not to value the opinions of random bullies on reddit above her relationship with her own best friend, anyway.

Sounds like the cousin is the arsehole here. But alas he is a wokey blokey.

[–] Midnight 14 points (+14|-0)

What's the betting the cousin was planning on using OP's wedding as thier own coming out as trans event?

And having a radfem there would ruin thier coming out.

[–] bumpyjerboa 8 points (+8|-0)

Oh lord, if I was at a wedding and someone tried to pull that, even if I was only a guest, I would drag a jerkface like that out so fast...

Boils down to "YTA for having who you want at your wedding instead of your fiance's cousin that nobody gives two shits about". Sure, let's redirect the focus of the wedding on some poor cousin's feelings, because being told by countless strangers that they are valid isn't good enough, they have to crash people's weddings too. People really just can't let women live their lives, can they?

Bonus round: MIL sounds like a total TERF (at least, by reddit logic) for telling the cousin to fuck off. Go women protecting other women!

At least there are lots of NTAs from people with a grip on reality, once you scroll past the cult. But I find it oddly fascinating how the people replying seem to think their own approval is such hot shit. They're so unremittingly nasty over the tiniest of slights; why would anyone want their friendship?

That level of respect would still be far into the negatives, mind you.

Like... who the fuck are you? Why would OP care about your 'level of respect' for her? Even though she was conflicted enough to post on AITA, she's now been confronted with this wall of absolute hatred from people who thought trashing her best friend would be the ideal way to win her over. To me, it shows they are so used to abusing people, they think it's normal.

Got it in one.

[–] crodish 28 points (+28|-0)

Everyone in the comments is just screaming how OP shouldn't have had a TERF / FART for a friend to begin with, raining down the transphobe storm. They're even more removed from the wedding than this distant cousin is, and they got offended. lmao

[–] KissMyOvaries 45 points (+45|-0)

The wokies were saying YTA simply because they believe that she’s a TERF simply because her friend is a TERF. They weren’t actually judging the situation at hand.

Reddit is the absolute WORST place to get advice.

[–] Womancup 23 points (+23|-0)

Yes, definitely never get advice from reddit and definitely not AITA. They have no clue

[–] crodish 18 points (+18|-0)

Yep. They read "radfem" and went straight to comment town lol

[–] wildpansy 6 points (+6|-0)

"If you have one person sitting at table with two bigots, you have three bigots". Guilt by association. You must shun the heretic, or the cult will shun you too!

I saw the sea of YTAs and thought it was a joke. TRAs are officially high on their own farts and completely out of touch with reality. Nobody who thinks the bride is in the wrong deserves to ever be listened to about anything other than which body pillow makes the best waifu ever again.

[–] edieandthea 38 points (+38|-0)

Will keep an eye out for this bride on the peak trans thread...

[–] bicycling_elephant 35 points (+35|-0)

I’m kind of amused that that thread is so full of socially-awkward weirdos that the idea that a woman can hold private opinions but not express them at inappropriate times is just inconceivable to them.

[–] bumpyjerboa 12 points (+12|-0)

It's projection. They can't hold their own private opinions without expecting women to 100% agree with their every thought.

[–] Morningmist 29 points (+29|-0)

Her mother in law and friend sound wonderful. She should dump the husband though. If he is taking the sides of the misogynistic woman hating cousin during the wedding, I don’t have faith as to what he will dump on her next. Women sticking together is great. Fuck the guy though.

[–] lucrecia 18 points (+18|-0)

Yep, that was my first thought, too. It'll be one thing after another with this guy. Not worth it.

[–] void 22 points (+22|-0) Edited

lmao I can't believe the replies. A branch of the groom's family is trying to ruin his wedding because the Maid of Honor doesn't TWAW the line, and the bride is the asshole for not cutting ties with her best friend? The wedding is not about the friend, dipshits. wtf is going on. Fucking children throwing fits over an opinion that has nothing to do with anything.

Amy is radfem but it’s not easy to tell, because she does a lot of third world feminism stuff.

doesn't sound like OP knows what we're about yet
