What I do not understand is how someone who has gone through the intense trauma of sexual abuse and then decide to try to become like their assailants.

But identification with one's oppressor and abuser happens all the time. Some people who were bullied and abused become bullies and abusers of others.

That actually makes a lot of sense.

Might be an attempt to become safe. If these things happen to girls and women, then they won't happen to me if I don't look like a girl or a woman.

Though I do see a lot (A LOT) of misogyny among TIFs. They have internalized it and they define women in misogynistic and sexist terms rather than as a person of female sex who is also an individual with her own talents and excellencies.
