Yeah, I figured it was only "good news" relatively speaking. At least they're safer now.

It's deeply entrenched within the religion and culture, especially in villages. Women play an active role in policing other women in order to enforce the patriarchy... because in most cases the only "power" a woman will hold in her life is over younger women.

This generation is a lot more free and open minded, but Indian women have a difficult path to carve for themselves.

So who cares for the children while mom is in the period hut? Who cooks his meals?

I think the are allowed in the house to do free labor. They're just not allowed to sit down or lay down.

Other women in the extended family, I'm sure. I doubt the fathers do anything.
