Good media representation of lesbian relationships is sparse. I get that. But what's up with this stupid idolisation of toxic relationships?

Especially 'Tibette' is worshipped amongst the fans and I'm sitting here and wondering if I watched the same show as everyone else. I really had high hopes for the reboot, even if I didn't care for the new cast. I was interested if they will manage to rectify they mistakes from the past. But instead of doing that, they totally doubled down. Including a TIF, selling a TIM as 'cis woman' (no offence to the actor, he almost looks convincing) and doubling down on the toxic relationships that plagued the show years ago.

The new L word is nothing more than a virtue signalling show, I'm appalled that the original actresses even agreed to do this thing. It is cringe inducing.

Out of the plethora of amazing characters in the original, I was shocked and confused as to why only three of them would be returning for the reboot...

Maybe this is why.

Yes, The L Word has a place in my heart because when it originally aired, there was almost nothing for lesbian representation that wasn't incredibly depressing. And there was nothing about lesbians who were out and confident and unapologetically lesbian. We have a lot better representation now so I feel like the show really comes off as addicted to toxic relationships. It's complete drama. Though I do enjoy Gigi/Dani. That's all I watch. I tried watching other things, but the trans content, Bette having apparently not grown up, the poly relationship, the constant cheating, etc. is too much this time around.

Having a TiM act as a woman and pairing him up with "the" lesbian in the show is absolutely on purpose and it's upsetting. And they have a lot of trans content, though rewatching the original, I was surprised how much I had forgotten about the trans content in there too. I guess I just compartmentalized it out because honestly the storyline was awful.

I don't like seeing his hands on her. I realize she is a fictional character, but this really ruins the one television fantasy woman I still had, and I am mad about it.

Their sex scene was so awkward because you could clearly tell that this wasn't a womans body.

I didn’t even watch it. As soon as I saw it was going to be called The L Word Q or whatever the fuck it is- I knew that there would be “Q’s” and that it would piss me off.

I wasn’t crazy about the first one when they introduced the first TIF/TIM whatever that person was, I knew it was going to veer into woke-land instead of strictly lesbians.

I have been disappointed so often with anything lesbian in movies. The lesbian character falls in love with a straight woman (married or with a BF) or they are both lesbians and one dies or one is very sick and probably will die or for an unknown reason, it won’t work out so they sadly part…I’m sure that there had to be one lesbian movie where they got to live happily ever after (just like real life, sure) but for the life of me-I can’t recall one.

This isn't a strictly lesbian movie per se - But I'm A Cheeleader spoiler has got a happy ending! Your point still stands tho, there's basically no real good lesbian movies with a fulfilling happy ending. Or TV for that matter.

Oh yes, that was a really sweet movie. Ok, I did forget about that one!

An Interracial Lesbian Romance with Sweet Ending Here!

I've recommended this several times on ovarit. My apologies if I already sent you this.

Have you watched Saving Face? No male love interests, no cheating drama, no death. It's tragic that this is remarkable for a lesbian movie, though!

No, I haven’t. That sounds really good, thanks, I would enjoy that!

The first season was ehh but I watched it because Finley's really cute, I don't think I can force myself through the 2nd though. I heard the TIM hooks up with Shane 🤢

I've said before and I'll say again, I don't consider anything after the original series story line went off the deep end around season 4-5 as canon.

The filth that is the reboot is just plain blasphemy.

I think the writers don't know how to instill drama without utilising relationship problems or really horrible stuff happening to people (ie: last weeks episode) which creates toxic or really rushed relationships. And they inevitably breakup whether people like them or not because.....more drama! Drama drama drama. We could've had some really nice pairings stay together (Alice and Dana or Tasha, Shane and Carmen or Paige, hell maybe Bette and Jodi) but they just...aren't allowed to.

I suppose that is the nature of a soap show, but it sure does get old. Especially with the current season where stuff happens and blows up in the span of two episodes.

Re: Tibette, I don't get it either. I enjoy the vibe of them in the original but they really ought to drop it now. I have to say from what I've seen, the Tibette fans are few but VERY LOUD and their behaviour is wild on twitter and whatnot. I talked to someone who casually excused Bette's cheating because "they are soulmates and will always get back together" as if soulmates is a sensible argument to make.

This is such a shame. Instead of good and interesting storylines, we get cheap drama.

Jodi changed so much for Bette just to be cast aside for Tina....I was really rooting for them back in the day and I thought they always were a better fit.

I had an argument with someone talking about how Tibette was true love. I can't believe that those lesbians think, that your true love will cheat, lie and abuse you like that.

It's surprising how much Tibette is worshipped - Bette was borderline abusive most of the time (i.e. relying on Tina to get her dry cleaning so often and getting pissed when she didn't... seriously?!) and literally raped Tina in the original series. Not to mention she kidnapped Angie. All around I have an issue with Bette lol. They did not seem like a good couple together, but the representation of a lesbian couple having a child together was worth something... maybe.

Regardless, the original series wasn't as bad as some people say, even if it wasn't great, but this reboot is just unforgiveable.

It's so trashy on the one hand, and a glossary of woke buzzwords on the other. My wife and I are ~80% hate watching it at this point, basically tuning in for Dani & Gigi.

Yea I didn't care for Tina in the OG series and care even less in this new series. I find Carrie to be annoying as all hell. The trans man's character is awful. Really just watching at this point because no other lesbian shows on at the moment but yea its bad. I don't see very many more seasons if there's even another one.

Honestly the only thing I like about S2 of the show - Carrie and Gigi. Because both characters don't seem like they are completely assholes like the rest of them...
