Not entirely sure it's classified as a love song but it makes me think of the beautiful courage love can give you.

Ha, I pointed it out to some Redditors who were admiring it that it was a lesbian love song and they angrily downvoted me for "making it political" and "not everything has to be gay". Nice to see I'm not crazy.

I don't know if she ever identified as a lesbian, just that she never explicitly said it was about a gay couple or a straight couple. I believe she is dating a woman now which suggests she was thinking of a lesbian couple but i would say t's more of an implied and/or lesbian subtext song.

i think people forget that we used to live in the margins of society and that we had to use subtext to make media more consumable. Anyways i know that song made a lot of people straight and gay connect to her music, so i think anyone can see it as their love song.

it's annoying how music we connect to is somehow political. i wish people both straight and gay would stop equating our sexuality as our politics.

All Tracy Chapman’s friends in Boston knew she was a lesbian when she was busking there. She also had a love affair with Alice Walker in the 1990s. They weren’t out about it though.

So many songs by Ferron. Lots of them are about being separated by The Road, or Holding the Torch, or the Reverberations of the End.

I Never Was to Africa. Harmless Love Bellybowl (although could also be a parody on the overwhelming ness of new love) Alice Says Yes

Melissa Etheridge’s album “Lucky” is one long celebration of a new relationship.

k.d. lang, “All You Can Eat” which she wrote with Ben Mink, is all about k.d. being in love with a woman who eventually turned her down.

Hot Wire was a women’s music and culture magazine. All issues are online. You will be able to find loads of female artists writing love songs for women.

Melissa Etheridge (whole discography to be honest) but also: “come to my window” and as a breakup song: “I’m the only one”

Jill Sobule - I Kissed a Girl

Amanda Palmer - Melody Dean

Lipstick Homicide - What's Expected of You

Teresa Trull - Rosalie

The Ditty Bops - There's a Girl

Partner - Woman of Dreams

Don't know if this one counts, but it's good nonetheless so: Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - Everyone Knows

For a non-English one: Anne Linnet - Smuk og Dejlig (which Natasja also made a great cover of, though I suppose it has a bit of a different vibe)

For some sillier ones: The Dollyrots - Kari Equals Hottie, Be My Leia

Sweetiex2 by Dixie Flatline. It was inspired by a girl on 2ch (basically SFW Japanese 4chan) who asked for tips on how to flirt with a classmate she had a crush on. The two eventually became a couple.
