forget the drama surrounding this movie, I'd do anything for Florence Pugh if she told me to run away with her I would do it.

I know there's important plot holes and unanswered questions and the third act was rushed but HOLY FUCK I really loved that movie anyway and wanna see it again! the song's been stuck in my head and bc I don't really care about harry styles, seeing him as a rat man incel was funny.

Florence was fuckin incredible, and I had a lot of fun trying to pick out her real accent and even caught a bit of her Yelena Belova accent in one or two sentences. what did y'all think? I thought it was a super interesting mash up of the matrix and stepford wives with the ending being inception-esque (frustratingly so, at least with inception the ending has been properly analyzed and we know if it's a dream or reality).

the visuals were so good. there was more nipple than I was expecting - not that I haven't thought abt Pugh's boobs before but I as I don't watch porn anymore, I get so caught off guard even seeing areola through a white t shirt. I was noticing, respectfully ๐Ÿ˜น I wish more of the secondary characters were fleshed out, but honestly with Pugh as the star, it really doesn't even matter imo

Just saw it last night. I liked it! More than anything, I love this for Olivia Wilde. I think it's amazing that more women are getting the chance to direct, and I thought this movie was a strong but not perfect movie.

I thought the first act moved a bit slow, and relied a little too much on the tension of Perfect 50s Dream Life and an unspoken horror. I think there's a lot there to plumb, but I feel like that tension overshadowed the more interesting sci-fi tensions of the later movie.

I freaking LOVED the wearables they used for the headsets, I thought they looked incredible. Art direction for this movie was ON POINT.

Florence Pugh did a great job and I loved that I got to see a whole movie from the POV of a female protagonist, facing female horrors. I really look forward to seeing what Olivia Wilde takes on next as a director because I thought she did a great job with this.

Agreed agreed agreed! Though I liked the extra tension. I just watched The Invitation (the 2016 one, not the new movie by the same name) and also thought it was a bit slow, BUT it added to the fact that we were watching a trainwreck in the making, which adds extra discomfort to the movie.

I also really loved Booksmart, so regardless of drama, Wilde puts out good ass movies!

Also her drama would've been ignored had she been "Oliver" Wilde so it's just people loving to gossip. Not saying anyone should get a pass for creating a toxic work environment, but unless we were there or there's a Tell All in a couple years abt life on set, we won't know if it was just the press blowing it up for fun or if there were legit things going on. (Unless a cast member has spoken out about it. I know Pugh put out a statement saying the rumors of bad blood were just that, rumors)

I thought this film was excellent. It's telling to me that it has had worse criticism than many equally or more elliptical films by men such as Mulholland Drive (which I also love). Ditto for Jordan Peele's recent film Nope, which also should have garnered more praise.

Oh I also thought Nope was really good! I saw it twice, and even though the break up is too recent to not hurt, my ex was super critical of films - and he said Nope was 99% perfect

Finally saw this. Really enjoyed it but I did feel the emotional weight of the film was on solving the conspiracy rather than the misogyny driving it.

One thing I don't get- why were the women so happy? I get they were kind of mind wiped and given false backgrounds, but were they programmed to always be happy as well? If not, the unintentional message seemed to be thar women naturally enjoy that life.

yeah I get that - I think it was just brainwashing, cause you can see as soon as Alice starts to unravel everything, the women move away from their husbands. like obviously some women wanna be housewives, but definitely would be problematic for a movie like this to say that all women wanna be housewives/love being housewives.

Interesting. Someone else commented that this would have made great prestige TV - like an HBO miniseries. I think that would have helped explore some of the dynamics.

GURL

LETS GOOOOOOO. I havent seen Don't Worry Darling yet but I loooooove me some Flo. between her and Mia Goth, I'm literally a puddle of fangirl goo on the floor.

I saw some of the drama surrounding the movie but I literally had the same reaction, ppl kept telling me and I was like idgaf it's Flo it's Flo it's FLOOOOOO.

I saw her in Midsommar recently and just instantly fell in love. I plan on branching out and seeing more of her stuff. DWD obviously but there's one coming out on streaming starring her as well.

love to see another Flo fan ๐Ÿฅน

You must!! She's the absolute star of the movie ๐Ÿ˜ and if you know anything about Marvel, then you have to watch Black Widow, which is her introduction into the MCU and she's AWESOME!!!

I haven't seen Midsommar but that's just because I don't always do well with horror ๐Ÿ˜… but I want to once it's officially spooky month

Florence Pugh is also great in Hawkeye. She and Hailee Steinfeld make such an entertaining duo. I'm not a Marvel fan, but I could watch an entire show plus 7 movies dedicated to them.

And her Amy March is arguably the best thing in the new Little Women movie.

ugh yes she was so good in that too. I of course had to write a fic for Kate and Yelena because they were such a good duo

I agree, I only saw that movie once but she was adorable

Well now Iโ€™m interested where I wasnโ€™t before!

Also I didnโ€™t think we had an answer to Inception! I thought it was purposefully vague.

Go see it!!!

And There's definitely a definitive answer to it, but it doesn't have to do with the spinning top ;)

I think I will watch it based on your review, thanks!

at least with inception the ending has been properly analyzed and we know if it's a dream or reality

? We do know? Well which was it? Lol

I know it's an old movie but I dont wanna spoil it and idk how to put the spoil blockers in a response so: https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/inception-wedding-ring-theory-explain-movies-ending.html/

Hrmmmm

This explanation doesn't seem that airtight to me. But thank you for following up! It's a couple of pieces of evidence, anyway!
