Edit I think this is the best circle but if not please redirect me.

Hi everyone, I have seen other users' posts get derailed, and I'm sure I've derailed others' posts ... and then it happened to me.

My post was about institutional capture, and a health care professional who does good work in the NICU being railroaded (imo, haven't talked to her yet) into the "pregnant people" newspeak.

It got derailed into a chat about the medicalization of pregnancy.

That is a huge issue, and a good and important discussion to have. I have lots of opinions in that area and I'm happy to discuss them.

But it was not what I was posting about, so I stopped looking at the thread.

If someone notes an issue which arises from a post, she can make a separate post - even referencing the original as a starting point - and thus a new discussion.

That leads to more focused discussions on both the original and new posts.

Otherwise the OP (like me) might just bail on the chat, and all the otherwise useful discussion gets lost in the shuffle.

Yes, I agree with this completely! It's a good note. It will also cause Ovarit to become more active in general as more users create new threads.

Hey! I was the person who brought up the medicalization of birth. I hear that you experienced that as a "Derail". From my perspective it was related to institutional capture because the entire institute of 'birthing' has been turned into a medicalized process and there is no room in the medical world for discussion about the harms of women birthing in hospitals and birth being medicalized, up to the point of women literally being forced to the hospital in handcuffs while in labor if the Doctor or medical system thinks it is appropriate. This suppression of natural birthing practices happened in a similar way (the railroading through legal and also coercive means!) that I was trying to describe to you. The relevance of this is clear, no? This is just one more related incident in the "capture" of birth. That said, I hear that you felt that that derailed your conversation and so you chose not to engage. More power to ya! <3
