“It’s ok if men don’t respect you, as long as they still want to fuck you”

Well damn if that doesn’t just sum up liberal feminism in a nutshell.

I think women do it partly to show that they're a Cool Girl, not humorless or shrill. Same for women who try to make feminism appealing to men by defending prostitution and porn.

I'd love to see girls reclaim "prude" and "frigid".

I've been passively working on using prude as a neutral word, at least when referring to myself.

Love. And I'll be "clutching my pearls" every time gender goblins worm their way into schools.

I have never fully understood this expression - what specific group of women wears pearls? Only Marge Simpsons comes to mind.

I have noticed men using 'cat lady' as an insult and the gals responding, 'Yo, that's me, you got a problem?'. I have a brother who has stopped using 'feminazi' quite as much now he's noticed that feminists actually do a bunch of useful stuff like child safeguarding and keeping women's spaces for women.

Reclaiming slurs is a stupid concept anyway. You can't just go 'oh i reclaimed this slur' when you don't have the power to do that. Nothing stops people from just continuing that word as a slur in the same way they always did. All you're doing then is reinforcing that using the word is ok.

I get using it like a self-derogatory, "you can't insult me when I'm not offended by it to begin with" way, but yeah. Black people use the n-word with impunity but it's still extremely racially charged when a person of a different race uses it against them in a way that is clearly meant to belittle and cause offense. Hell, we call ourselves TERFs on here and everyone's fine with it because 1) we know that's what they're calling us 2) none of us are using it as an insult or a way to put down other women, and yet o/TERFisaSlur is still a thing, because it is. It's only okay when the "oppressed" group uses it.

One person can't reclaim a slur but a group can over time by replacing the association in people's head with something positive. It takes more than a generation though, imho, to really stick.

IMO not while the power systems that produced this slur are still in place.

I'm reclaiming "prude".

I don't understand how it is even an insult. It doesn't even imply you are ugly. Just that you set strict boundaries for men. (It is usually men that need the boundaries for their sexual desires, not women.)

Basically, it describes a woman with healthy self-esteem. (The same might be said of Terf - and I think we can reclaim that. Once the tide turns, it will be a word for the women who were not deceived.)

It is true that no sexually loaded term for women has ever been really successfully "reclaimed", but slurs intended to slight people with certain beliefs are a different thing. Once the attitude to the belief changes, so does the connotation of the term.

So ... I think "Terf" will soon be a compliment in general society. It sure is on here, already.

"Spinster feminazi looking for that special someone to terf with" now going on my dating profile.

Right, you can't reclaim a slur, it was created to dehumanize, debase and humiliate. Wtf is gonna change with you saying it? You're just participating in your own oppression, thinking you're in on the joke, but you are the joke.

It really underscores how having men want to fuck us is key to our survival. Ties into the invisibility at best, vitriol at worse that older women experience. If they don’t want to fuck you they are indifferent at best or terrifying at worst.
