There's material for lots of PhD theses in the rise of people online who believe that Japanese anime cartoon children are valid and realistic role models about transition or about being a woman. Rather horrifying, in some sense, that so many live their lives only online, or so it sounds to me.

I took a gender studies class that included a full module on cartoons. I didn't have to watch any anime or read manga but we read a lot of commentary on it. I wish I still had the content. The trans narrative was often front and center.

The trans narrative was at the center of the anime/manga or of different cartoons?
