Oppressors always want the oppressed to be "grateful." Like we'd be nothing without men. They want to take credit for so called "good" things of patriarchy but not slavery, colonization, rape, war, trafficking, climate change, hate for the natural world. Patrichary is death and destruction. Men "ruling" the word is why humans will go extinct soon.

exploitative capitalism and global warming are both male inventions. as is fascism, colonialism, genocide, etc. women can participate (and are often forced to) but the driving force is always men.

Men "rule the world" in the same way that an arsonist "rules" the house they're busy burning down. What is the point in ruling something that has been destroyed, no longer exists, as per your "ruling" it?

I refuse to say it's a "man's world." Stop adopting and internalizing the perspective and historical worldview of your oppressor, that's step number one. Men are not, as a class, the hero in this story. In fact, historically, they are and have been the villains. I prefer to read stories and philosophize from the perspective of the righteous.

These men. It's like setting you on fire and expecting thanks for their putting it out. You LITERALLY created the problem and now you want thanks? It's not just delusional. It is AUDACITY.

Yeah, if there was no patriarchy then women wouldn't need to be emancipated from it. What is he even trying to say there?

It's like saying if there was no covid, there wouldn't be any vaccine lmao

[–] ditchwitch 18 points (+18|-0)

Yes! I was trying to come up with a comparison, that's perfect. No need for a cure without the disease, what are you talking about dude???

"If there was no enslavement and people trafficking, there wouldn't have been your precious "abolition" and #BLM. WHAT 👏 ABOUT 👏THAT! 👏"

[–] silky 34 points (+34|-0)

Ahahahahaha oh my god

“Don’t you see, women? We oppressed you so you could free yourselves! You should thank us! You wouldn’t know how to be free if it weren’t for us taking your freedom away!”

Wasn't there research that a lot of milestone inventions were actually invented by women? Men certainly have contributed, but civilization is a joint effort which this guy specifically is only a detriment to by the sounds of it.

[–] BogHag 31 points (+31|-0)

Despite the patriarchy, women have been massive contributors to science, medicine, technology, engineering, etc. We've been barred from colleges, leashed to our homes, overburdened with childcare and housework, and yet despite all of that...

Imagine what we could have offered the world given half a chance.

Even the men whose milestone inventions and achievements were world-changing were ABSOLUTELY benefitting from the labor of the women who gave them the time and support needed to commit time to their endeavors. Someone was cleaning their houses, raising their children, and making their meals, presumably women whose own inspiration didn't have the same room to thrive.

Think of every scene from anything ever where the brilliant male inventor is brought tea by his wife/housekeeper. They see he's fallen asleep and quietly drape a blanket over him.

Men excel above all in stealing credit and artificially suppressing the competition. For most of history men blocked women from the medical science, meanwhile killing patients in droves because they wouldn't wash their fucking hands. If women weren't around to save humanity from the failures of men, we'd still be licking ants off a stick.

What men consider civilization they could not endure if made to live in it as women. Most men would rather die than act out the “civilized” cultural roles assigned to women. Expecting women to celebrate male civilization makes as much sense as expecting South American or African men to celebrate the cotton or sugar trade successes of European ones. Or for a working class man to celebrate his boss’s vacation abroad.

Men’s “civilization” is created at women’s expense and therefore it’s women’s natural right to revile, sabotage and even destroy it.

But setting that aside, I am willing to accept that men created everything good in the world as long as they don’t complain about their deaths in droves from war, suicide and the general tendency of male Homo sapiens to behave towards each other like rabid chimpanzees who have learned to scratch their grunted names into the dirt with sticks stained with blood and encrusted with brains. As long as I am not expected to feign concern for men’s lives and health in my daily life, I am happy to hand them their unmatched (if temporary) victory over the natural elements external to their testes and deformed nervous systems.

Congratulations, you have invented ways to kill each other en masse with swiftness and brutality that your forefathers could not imagine, and live in perpetual cycles of blood thirst and fear, albeit in buildings resistant to poor weather conditions!

As a woman whose inferior and irrational natural instinct is to live a long life in peace and cooperation with others of my species, I bow to men’s brilliance in technologically advanced gang activity and environmental destruction.

Thank you men, for allowing us all to die indoors (instead of outdoors), blown apart by bombs dropped by drones (instead of by natural causes), while reading (instead of foraging for food). Whatever would we do without you!

"What men consider civilization they could not endure if made to live in it as women. Most men would rather die than act out the “civilized” cultural roles assigned to women."

So well said!

I'm going to learn calligraphy just to make this into art to hang on my wall. It's so succinct, powerful, and truly beautiful—it touched me.

Edit:

Expecting women to celebrate male civilization makes as much sense as expecting South American or African men to celebrate the cotton or sugar trade successes of European ones.

Hey, this is exactly what the UK government has just said! Black people should actually be thankful for slavery!

[–] kalina 20 points (+20|-0)

patriarchy gave all that to MEN only, motherfucker. that's the whole point

[–] crimewave 18 points (+19|-1)

Funny coming from a country with a rape epidemic 🤦

[–] Tnetennba 6 points (+6|-0)

Right? All countries have rape problems, but India seems to care so very little about it. Maybe it's just the articles I've read, maybe I'm not exposed to enough news from other places, but it does seem particularly bad there.

"If there wasn't patriarchy, there wouldn't be woman empowerment".

No one cares about your "women empowerment" dude, just 1) your handmaids who are gaslit into believing that being an OnlyFans model is good, that being a sex worker is "reclaiming and monetizing your sexuality in your own terms", and 2) the men behind the marketing campaign for the Spice Girls.

I don't want to be "empowered" or "empower other women". I want equality of power to the point that I don't have to mention or hear this nonsense koolaid marketing slogan ever again. I want to be past the time when people need to feel like they're "empowering women" or that So-And-So is an "empowered woman".

I want to be past the time when a female character in movies, theatre and TV who is not either the love interest or the "young mum" is the exception and is called "strong female character". Past the time when a movie about sex workers is the pinnacle "female empowering" and past the time when 2 women twerkin'-for-da-boyz and singing about their vagina being wet in the Grammys is the pinnacle of "female empowering".

You can shove your "female empowerment" where it fits, I'm not interested.

[–] Chronicity 16 points (+17|-1)

Takes like this really make me wish women would abandon this planet and watch the self-destruction from afar. In less than a week’s time, the “wonderful” civilization that patriarchy built would implode.

[–] madderthanhell 16 points (+16|-0) Edited

I've heard the exact same arguments made in post-colonial countries about the 'benefits' of colonialism; of course these arguments are made by people who are/were the prime beneficiaries of colonialism.
