Women aren't prioritized in custody. When men want custody, they are more likely to get it.

Because we're supposed to be impressed when a man actually wants to take care of his own children and give him whatever he wants because he must be EXTRA special and great at being a dad for doing what he should be doing.

Usually, when a man demands 50/50 custody (or more), it has more to do with avoiding child support, or sticking it to the mother, than it does with his own desire to parent his children.

There used to be a blog called Dastardly Dads that did nothing but catalog all the cases in which fathers with custody hurt or killed the kids they should never have gotten custody of. It went inactive after years, but it might still be up.

I would assume in many cases he’s also a pedo and wants them for more nefarious reasons.

I am always reminded of the video that went viral on twitter of a dad doing his daughter's hair. like it was the most basic af video. A basic ass video of a mother doing her daughter's hair would never go viral, but men are on average so pathetic it's extra special when a dad does his daughter's hair.

"he watched a lot of videos to do different hairstyles! And he put effort into it! He's to praise"

Uh no? I'm a woman and even I would have to watch videos to do some hairstyles I've never done or to do hair different than mine, for example curly hair.

Dads really do get praised for the stupidest shit

I remember a Reddit post that had thousands of upvotes - it was a picture of a really badly done wonky hair braid on a little girl with some caption like “I’m a dad and just did my daughters hair braid for the first time!”

Got anything I can read about that? Because I had heard the opposite, that lawyers usually tell men not to fight in court for their kids because they won't win.

Here's some info from Kathleen Maloney, graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School.

"Fathers can't get custody" is one of those things we typically refer to as "lies."

[–] IAmTesterical 28 points (+28|-0)

"A man's job is to go to work while the woman torpedoes her career and stays home to take care of the kids."

Five minutes later:

"How dare you care about how much I make, you gold digger."

Even when men do get a big chunk of custody, they get a girlfriend and shove the responsibility on to her. It's a tale as old as time. Most men in a custody situation aren't even fit for more then the weekends in my opinion.

[–] JoanOfBark 17 points (+18|-1) Edited

This is such a good point. My dad complained about my mom getting custody of us non-stop to his friends and family. But when we went to his house on the weekends, he usually dumped us on his mother, sister, or girlfriend to go out partying with his friends.

So often when dudes fight for custody they're not doing it because they really want the kids. They're doing it to punish and torment their ex. A decent judge will hopefully see through that.

Can you please not use female slurs? "Complained" means the exact same thing without decades of sex based abuse behind it.

[–] BogHag 4 points (+4|-0)

Agreed. We should be critical with how we use language. It's easy to use the same words used against us against others. They're still misogynistic.

[–] JoanOfBark 3 points (+3|-0) Edited

Fair enough. I don't even think about the actual context behind the word anymore, which I suppose just proves how normalized it is. Changed.

The patriarchy backfiring on men is not the fault of feminism
