The post is very true. Some of the language you see online has zero relation to how people talk in real life. It's not even just abusive/TRA crap, but influencer-speak too. I cringed to see so many influencers posting the exact same messages during the BLM protests last year - "I see you," "I understand that I will never understand," etc. It's like online-speak often veers between these saccharine copy-paste messages and hardcore abuse (also frequently copy-pasted) with little reasonable middle ground.

I gave up trying to debate any of these kinds of people. It’s always shit like, “Just say you’re transphobic and go.” or some other dismissive phrase. You’re totally right about the copy-pasted responses, they’re all the same.

[–] serfnterf 8 points (+8|-0)

It's cult speak and they keep doing it because it works.

Rejecting any and all outside opinions makes even the shittiest logic impenetrable.

Echo chambers end up making people sound progressively more insane to people outside of cults, so hopefully things will swing back into our favor.

it’s all a performance. why actually involve yourself in debate or change when you could get the dopamine hit of painting yourself as an angel that can do no wrong and “owning” someone you disagree with?

[–] el-sol-duerme 5 points (+5|-0)

My pet peeve is reading, "I see you," especially from the TRA crowd.

[–] NotCis 3 points (+3|-0)

I hate "I see you," "I hear you," "I hold space in my heart for you," "I walk this path with you," and so much more. I may be a curmudgeon but they're also highly unoriginal and annoying.

"I see this is the current social media trend. I hear this will get me a lot of likes. I hold space for more followers. I walk the path of trying to prove to myself and others I'm a good person. Since <insert cause here> is totally "in" right now I will walk with you right into next year's big cause."

Reading that one just makes me think of that space-Avatar movie. Is there supposed to be a less cringy context for it?

[–] NewMa 2 points (+2|-0)

OMG I bet they're going to put a male in a female Avatar in the next movie.

[–] hmimperialtortie 18 points (+18|-0)

The appalling thing is that these male brutes have acquired institutional power however insignificant they are personally.

You can tell he either gets a lot of this stupid crap directed at him or he sees TRAs doing it to other (mostly women) people. It's probably both. Good for him for not backing down and always calling a spade a spade, the world needs some sanity, especially the world of psychiatry that is once again embracing an ideology that is abusing women and homosexuals (will they ever stop???).

[–] TiredDev 9 points (+9|-0)

I believe he was one of the doctors interviewed in Irreversible Damage. If I remember correctly, he was ousted from his career because it went against TRAs.

[–] SulphuricMirror 12 points (+12|-0)

Yes, and I appreciate that he is still out there informing people about the existence of AGPs (despite the ousting). I don't know what employment he currently has (if any, I hope he has something to do and keep him afloat), but he does still have that expertise and experience that is very valuable and I'm glad he's not willing to be silenced. I know he pipes up on twitter a lot. Also, I really ought to read that book, but there are so many I want to read, it's like a never-ending list, haha.

Blanchard seems to still be a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto: https://www.psychiatry.utoronto.ca/faculty/ray-blanchard & http://individual.utoronto.ca/ray_blanchard/

You might be thinking of Ken Zucker who got ousted from a children's gender clinic in Toronto, in spite of the fact he supports medically transitioning some children - simply supporting watchful waiting and gatekeeping was enough for TRAs to go after him: https://www.thecut.com/2016/02/fight-over-trans-kids-got-a-researcher-fired.html

[–] TiredDev 1 points (+1|-0)

Ah, you're right! Mixed them up. Thank you for doing the research for me!

[–] GenderCriticalDad 10 points (+10|-0)

A lot of TRA discourse is nothing to do with changing the minds of anyone, or even effecting any change. It's all about boosting their performance of virtue and displaying their luxury beliefs.

So "No Debate", "End OF" are there to signal to the in-crowd how pure the faith of the speaker is. They are demonstrating that their faith is deeper than any mere facts or rationality.

You won't get them to change by pointing out the problems with their arguments. You can however, use them, to show anyone who is reading the discussion, just how facile their ideology is. If you can prod them into moving thru:

  • We just want to pee
  • Trans women are women
  • It's a womans penis
  • Children shouldn't stare

Onlookers are likely to be peaked

[–] peachy_ikwe 10 points (+10|-0)

Another example of the delusion in the TRA community stemming from narcissism and being perpetually online.

[–] peachy_ikwe 8 points (+8|-0)

I’ve had so many TRA friends in my college classes who will use this type of language on twitter or in their tiktoks and then get flustered during discussions and trash talk or counter argue only when they know nobody will be there to debate them. They’ve all been toxic and most of them are covert narcissists.

[–] BogHag 5 points (+5|-0)

The absolute narcissistic rage I used to see on Tumblr when I'd keep pushing. Like, no. You don't get to end the conversation. You don't control what I respond to. Some would post this shit and immediately block, but even then I'd try to screencap and reply to it publicly.

If you want to talk, talk. I'm going to talk too. That's the internet. You can't bully me into submission on anon. Call me slurs. I'll post them too. Do you know how many women I peaked just sharing the way tras spoke to me? If you respond to a question with a death threat, ...you might be on the wrong side.

[–] neeko 5 points (+5|-0)

Either that or something along the lines of "anyone who argues with my logic is wrong, hateful and deserves death". I don't have the energy to deal with TRAs anymore tbh

[–] ouvalemonde GIRLBO$$ 5 points (+5|-0)

The TWAW mantra is a good example of this, they don't want anyone to think critically, they only want agreement.

[–] yesisaiditxx 2 points (+2|-0) Edited

It’s just a fantasy. The few times anyone has ever said something like that to me in real life and I’ve responded while whipping my head in their direction faster than a demon, I’ve seen them go deer in headlights or even had tears well in their eyes. Learn to speak with civility or you’ll cross the wrong person one day— not everyone is instinctually inclined to go puppy eyes at you if you say some magic words like “so shut up!”

I know I would never throw anything or actually try to touch or hurt anyone so the way I see it is if you want to attack me and look like the bigger psycho be my guest. I’ve only done this with more than 3-4 people present for safety reasons FYI :)

[–] shveya 1 points (+1|-0)

Yep, the authoritarian attitude helped a lot to peak me. Nothing makes me fee hot-headed faster than people talking to me like they expect me to be obedient.

[–] CatMage 0 points (+0|-0)

They seem to have an ongoing confusion that public forums/social media on the internet is the equivalent of their own personal private blog where they get to stand on their soapboxes and magically shut down any signs of discord.

Unfortunately for these delusional fools public forums/social media doesn't work that way.
