Yes, it takes some doing in such households to get online unobserved or to a phone unobserved. I don't support making it even harder through the use of spyware favored by abusers. I can't think of any but highly extreme scenarios where this would ever be excusable... At least one mormon already thanked you for posting this too so there's that :/

The internet can be an awful place but the people who make it awful are also running around IRL and having kids who have to live with them, I think especially on this website there's a tendency to act like all parents are always doing the best for their kids but many of us have good reason to know that's not true. I worry a lot for girls' safety, especially LB girls, as this increased furor of "parents' rights" rightwing authoritarianism hits the US. there's real world reasons girls are allowed to seek medical treatment etc without parental notification.
I plan on making a post about the harassment I suffered sometime! I plan on reporting the bloke who harassed me to the FBI... I have been collecting his info to give to them...
At first I was only going to report him for implying he had hacked me but I found out he is also a sexual predator and a groomer of minors in real life after doing research on him by looking at his old messages in the forum where I meet him so I will be reporting him for being a predator as regardless if he hacked me or not he is still a predator in real life by his own admission according to his messages...

I'm sorry you went through that, wow glad you weren't hacked but good for you collecting his admissions to take down a predator! What a scumbag, I hope he goes away soon so he can't harm anyone else. I think your post about your situation could help a lot of women.
And oh yes, there are some who've been open about it and some users you can tell are religious right even though they're shadier about admitting it. There's no rule against them being here and we're not allowed to "personally attack users" so nothing really to do besides downvote their patriarchal religious propaganda and apologism for adding negative value to any convo, report the occasional inexcusable forced birther comments, and be mindful what we say that is being hateread by both users and non-users.
I think most of these parents you described won't really let their children even have any Internet at all especially when they are not looking... Sorry about what you went though by the way! I first learned about keyloggers when I was doing research on cyber security stuff myself after I was harassed online...
