Really hoping there’s other fans here who share my feelings and I’m not being a little psycho.

A new writer came about a few years ago and absolutely obliterated the first female Doctor and showed no respect for decades worth of world/character building. Jodie Whitaker is a great actress but there’s only so much she could do with lifeless costars and the garbage that was written for her. A few months ago we found out that one of the old writers is coming back to write the 14th season. I was really excited for this because I sat out most of Whitaker’s episodes and I really miss the campy but well written stories this writer is known for.

The new Doctor was revealed in May. Ncuti Gatwa. He played Eric on Sex Education. He’s not a poor actor by any means, but his character on SE annoyed me. Still I was excited to see how he wrangles an immense character like the Doctor and puts his spin on it!

So here’s my first problem. Since they’re releasing the new season on the 60th anniversary, they’re including a lot of previous cast members. I noticed Catherine Tate on the list. She played Donna Noble, an excellent companion whose storyline tragically ended with her being unable to remember her adventures with the Doctor. It’s stated in the show that if she remembers she will die. So now I’m afraid they’re going to retcon this beautiful character’s emotionally heavy ending for a damn anniversary cameo.

But what I’m really angry about is that they’ve cast a TIM actor to replace the most beloved female companion of all time! He is an 18 year old who does not pass whatsoever. He is unmistakably MALE. He is a man in a wig. And he is supposed to be the new Rose Tyler. If Billie Piper didn’t want to reprise her role as Rose Tyler, why cast a fucking MALE and not just erase her storyline? Her arc has been over for a decade plus. But no, there are on set pictures of this fucking moid standing next to David Tennant and the TARDIS.

It is so disrespectful to the show, to Billie Piper’s character, to David Tennant’s Doctor, and mostly to the audience! We’re going to be gaslit in every episode that this gargantuan man is actually a schoolgirl!

Fuck. I’m so disappointed. Guess I’ll always have the old episodes :/

I boycott shows with TIMs. I stopped mid-season in "You" after I noticed the very ugly woman was actually a man, and "she" was supposedly an object of envy from the female protagonist. Ew no.

Nothing would induce me to watch Dr Who these days (I noped out with Matt Smith, looked at a few Capaldis and was disappointed, didn’t make it through Whittaker’s first story). I think I read here somewhere (the post was some time ago) that he’s playing a character named for Rose, rather than Rose herself. I have no idea whether that’s correct. I wouldn’t watch a show with a TIM in it now. It was bad enough seeing the two old eps of Midsomer Murders and New Tricks that featured them. 🤮

Oops didn’t know there was already info posted on this! Guess I’m late to the party haha. I love Doctor Who since I grew up with it. Capaldi’s run disinterested me so I skimmed it and I barely watched Whitaker’s first season, but I still revisit the older episodes for the campy nostalgia.

I won’t be watching this new season. Even if the TIM is playing a new character named Rose, it’s still pretty ballsy considering the weight Real Rose had. It just feels in very poor taste to me.

Yes, I started watching it in my teens, during Tom Baker’s early days. I still much prefer classic Who, the first four Doctors, to anything later (didn’t think much of Peter Davison, couldn’t abide Colin Baker, and had lost interest by the time of wossname who replaced him). My first reaction to newsof the reboot was horror and it’s looking like it’s going downhill much faster than the classic series did ...

Rose is my absolute least favourite companion, and I really can't stand her as a character. She doesn't however deserve to be turned into a TIM.

I stopped watching after the first season of Jodie's doctor because of how bad it became. I almost stopped at the end of Matt Smith, enjoyed Capaldi, then was really disappointed when we finally got a female doctor. I'm not sure if I want to watch the new episodes, as I'm not the biggest fan of RTD.

Probably will just stick with Classic Who from now on.

I also noped out during the 11th Doctor because Steven Moffat taking over as lead writer/showrunner ruined the show for me. It just got too goofy and melodramatic for me, and I'm no longer invested. I'm only commenting to say I hope Catherine Tate plays another character. They can't bring back Donna. Her arc was heartbreaking and perfect, and why would they want to ruin that?

I've been watching since eccleston and as a massive fan of the thick of it, capaldi naturally ended up being my favourite doctor. I watched one episode with whitaker and really could not stomach it. Was going to start watching again after chibnall left, and excited about rtd before i knew he was a tra but then after that whole "To cut out the T is to kill" fucking nonsense against lgb alliance, I knew it was going to be misogynistic woke shite. and then he announced "yasmin" finney as rose and yeah nope I'm out. what a waste- half a century legacy down the drain.

RTD is a typical, totally unhinged male TRA.

And I bet you everything I own, that he's a typical screaming TRA in the streets and TERF in the sheets as well ... I really don't see him dating a TIF, and worshipping mangina. 🤨

Just looked him up, and Jesus, you weren't kidding. Literally just a man in a wig.

The difference between his photos from what seems to be a professional photo shoot and the "normal" photos with no editing is hilarious 😆

Of course he's an ugly woman but he'd be a reasonably attractive man. If he were a feminine man he could attract men (if gay) or women (if straight). What a stupid decision to trans and ruin his life for no reason.

The character is not the same Rose, rather someone else's daughter named after Billie Piper's Rose. This, at least, is what is told to me by my friend in the UK who is very on the cutting edge about the show and keeps his ducks in a row, that there were leaks explaining this Rose is Donna's daughter. anyway I am going to stay calm until the show actually airs, and I know Daily Mail likes to blow smoke when they first published something about the Rose "recast"

Apparently the character will be trans. So he is Donna's son

The TIM himself confimed his character to be a TIM. 😖 ( I read that on some Who-News site on Facebook. Didn't bother to read the interview with him, though.)

Thank you for the insight. I have never kept up with these things. I didn’t even know RTD was a mega TRA.

If naming this male Rose is all a ploy to rustle fans feathers, it definitely worked haha. I will stay mad though and I won’t be watching the new season. There’s no point now, with the shit writing and the woke pandering. I guess the positive to this situation is that absolutely no one will believe that giant scrote is remotely feminine haha.

Donna was probably my favourite companion, but they finalised her story and bringing her back feels wrong. I’d be against it even if it wasn’t for this TIM.

They also need to just let go of the whole Rose thing. I personally hated her character, and I know a lot of fans who did too. I get it’s an anniversary thing, but still just stop bringing her back.

The shows been going downhill for so long now. I liked Peter Capaldi a lot, and they even managed to turn Clara into a better character for a bit. But the quality of the writing was poor. I was cautiously exited for Whittaker (I personally did not like the way they announced it), and then her companions were so terrible. I would have personally loved if they just went female doctor and female companion, suck it to anyone complaining. It might have actually kept my attention then, but I just couldn’t put up with it anymore.

None of my friends who used to watch it, watch it now. My family doesn’t watch the Christmas/New Years specials anymore, and we always used to even if some people hadn’t been keeping up. Like do the show’s producers even know how much they’ve decimated their fan base?

Hello fellow Donna fan!! My fam also hasn’t been watching. I started to fade out during Capaldi’s run. I love Jenna Coleman but the Clara impossible girl arc was ridiculous. I also think they ruined 13 on purpose :(

They are definitely trying to appeal to a younger fan base, hence hiring Gatwa, an actor who appeared on a Netflix show aimed at teens, and an 18 year old TIM. I guess they’ve decided that fans like my parents (in their 60s, literally grew up with Doctor Who) aren’t worth it anymore. The Timless Child/Gallifrey/alt Doctor nonsense from Whitaker’s season was really the nail in the coffin for a lot of older fans, seeing as it completely and carelessly rewrote decades worth of TV cannon.

A new writer came about a few years ago and absolutely obliterated the first female Doctor and showed no respect for decades worth of world/character building.

And Whitaker will pay for the sins of Chibnall. It must be the fault of the woman instead of the absolute shit writing of the man, thus ensuring that we’ll never get another female Doctor.

It would not surprise me in the least if RTD transes himself. Rose was his Mary Sue and it’s a very deliberate choice to insert a man into her legacy like that. She’s my least favorite, but she doesn’t deserve this.

Absolutely. I have to wonder if they planned on destroying Whitaker’s Doctor as a “See? Told ya women can’t be the Doctor!” I didn’t know RTD was a TRA but now I definitely think it’s purposeful that he stuck a very non passing TIM into this iconic female role.

If you look at his other work, Chibnall is a competent writer, and given his prior relationship with Whitaker on Broadchurch, I don’t think he set out to deliberately sabotage her. I think the poor writing on DW was just pure male ego. RTD started NuWho by destroying Gallifrey. Then Moffatt took over and created a new, bigger narrative. I think Chibnall felt compelled to create something even bigger than his predecessors but bit off way more than he could chew, resulting in the narrative mess that broke continuity. Although I do think it was a bad decision to couple the first female Doctor with forced Wokeness. That played right into the incels’ hands.
