(I haven't watch this series) I saw the clip on youtube and all i have to ask is why? why did they make her twerk? Why do they have to keep sexualizing female characters all the time? It's just blatant sexualization at this point and yet everyone is all ''yassss queen slay'' over it.

Not to mention she doesn't even look Hulkish but just like a tall green woman. It's exactly like this meme. The males can be big, strong and scary but the women still have to be slim, sexy and humanoid. I hate it.

Woke “creativity” doesn’t work because it has the exact same energy as Christian rock music. It’s been predigested, watered down and sanitized to have the correct message and people can sense when they’re being lectured and condescended to when what they want is to be entertained. Also, the woke shit is obvious and distracting.

"You're not making Christianity better. You're making rock and roll worse"

🤣🤣

For real though, this is actually a brilliant analogy. Both Christian Media and Woke Media don't trust their audiences to handle nuance. So its all preachy, sanitized crap with characters who feel more like a list of checkboxes than actual humans. The Saturday morning cartoons I watched in the 80s and 90s had more complex characters than most of the crap written for adults nowadays

Yes, it’s a great analogy.

And both genres have strong “greetings, fellow youth” vibes.

Whoa, it's so true. Most movies suck now because the creators are more preoccupied with not being cancelled than actually communicating anything of substance.

The twerking is stupid. But I was MUCH more upset about the bathroom scene.

I couldn't find it in YT. So I'll summarize it here:

Jennifer stumbles into a bar's ladies room after suffering a car accident and her first She-Hulk transformation. She is dirty, disheveled, and appears slightly disoriented. She looks like she might have been beaten up. In strolls a TIM and his gaggle of handmaidens. They see Jennifer looking like she got her ass beat. And they immediately go, "Who did this? Where is he? Or she? Or they?" (because its totally common for women to be beaten & raped in bar bathrooms by predatory lesbians 🙄)

When Jennifer tries to explain that she was in an accident and needs a phone to call her cousin, the TIM and his handmaidens ignore her and say, "You know how to get over the ex that just beat you? MAKEOVER!!!"

And then they proceed to put makeup on her (despite her face having OPEN CUTS) and the TIM gives her a hideous pink fur coat. And she walks out of the bar looking like a streetwalker (which is the lead in for some drunk dudes to proposition her when she tries to leave)

That scene really upset me because it felt like a sexist 16 year old boy trying to write adult women. And it felt like a lazy way to get Jennifer in a bad hooker costume to explain why the dudes creeped on her. Like, the show didn't have the balls to have the men prey on her when she appeared to be injured and disoriented. So they softened it by cleaning her up and putting her in a bad hooker costume.

Also, I don't have to tell any of y'all this, but it is RIDICULOUS that any group of women would see a woman in that state in the bathroom and immediately put lipstick on her! Maybe the TIM would. But ACTUAL women? No fucking way

That scene sealed it for me. This show is libfem garbage and not worth my time

So the writers really thought that a group of women (besides the TIM obviously) see a woman beaten and bloody and their first instinct is to give her a make over instead of calming her down and offering to call 911.... what the fuck. Also ''or they?'' 🙄 really.

God this shows sounds like a TRA disaster. No wonder it's getting review bombed so badly.

While some of the review bombing is from scrotes. I think most of it is warranted because this show is badly written garbage. The lead just spouts feminist catchphrases (MAN-SPLAINING! CAT-CALLING! BEING A WOMAN MEANS CONSTANTLY BEING AFRAID!) and whines that He-Hulk can't understand her pain because he has a penis. And she also diminishes He-Hulk's trauma (even though it makes her look like an asshole on account of her being his cousin and knowing full well how much he's suffered in his life)

They also re-write her origin so that she accidentally catches the Hulk virus while rescuing Bruce from the car (in the comics, Bruce gave her a blood transfusion to save her life and that's how she became She-Hulk). And this wouldn't be a problem if the show didn't write Jennifer to be hostile towards Bruce's Hulk training. Her attitude would make more sense if Bruce had forced She-Hulk on her instead of it being a result of her somehow dragging her much larger male cousin away from a car wreck and their blood somehow mingling because they both had open wounds or whatever

Female characters are going through a growth period right now in Hollywood. They know we want strong female leads but some of them are over doing it and instead of making a ''badass'' character they end up with an asshole who tries to one-up everyone to prove she is the best and that she can do it all, which makes her very unlikable if i'm being honest.

It also doesn't help that usually it's so infused with modern woke/TRA messaging that people are just throwing the baby out with the bath water even if the character is good or not. We're stuck in a rock and a hard place right now and it really sucks. It's either secondary role/love interest with no personality or over the top libfem girlboss who slays the enemies away by twerking. It's honestly very strange to witness all of this.

This scene got to me because a girl I knew in college had to seek refuge in a ladies room after being drugged in a bar. And, in case you're wondering, the women in the bathroom didn't give her lipstick and a new coat. They called an ambulance because that's how normal human women would react to that shit!

Lucky for She-Hulk that she wasn't drugged. Otherwise, the TIM and his minions would have sent her right back to her attacker.

Thanks for the recap. I have a comic book nerd friend who keeps asking me to watch this show and insists there's no woke shit in it. Libfemmy shit is woke to me.

I was literally going to post about this lol. It's really 'funny' because since its inception, She hulk has been the only Marvel show that I've seen be completely focused on sex and romance which is pretty sad.

Points I thought applied:

  1. Her design is literally sexy model woman with tiny waist, tiny ankles and gorgeous hair. Before I get ppl saying that is what the comics were like, I do not care, I wanted a strong looking woman since the show doesn't follow the comics anyway

  2. All the ads pointed to her being sexy with the focus on her legs in high heels on the poster, her speed dating, the jokes on Steve being a virgin, her carrying some dude to the bed

  3. The show includes a montage of some dude saying he'd smash her which....

  4. The weird poly romance of seven women for some old villain? In a show for kids?!? wtf?!?

And I agree OP it is just sexualization, it felt so blatantly unnecessary. The focus on her butt, the camera tracking it, constantly following her legs in high heels, so creepy.

I wonder why so many little girls are saying they want to be boys 🤔

Creepy and uncomfortable for me as an adult, I feel so sad for kids.

I could get over the character being sexualized if the show was good. But its just not. Which is a shame because the premise of a superhero lawyer handing superhero (& villain) clients is a cool one

Having this female character that spouts feminist phrases and talking points start twerking seems really on brand for modern feminism. You'd almost think it was a commentary.

apparently it's "on brand" for her comic book persona. and she looks very similarly in the comics, too, when I went to look up the source material. I was like "this isn't??? a hulk???" kind of like how Gal Gadot looks like a cardio bunny ( a beautiful, gorgeous cardio bunny but cardio bunny nonetheless) instead of like/.. a fuckin amazonian goddess with legs that WOULDNT snap under the pressure her character is put under. :/

It’s all data-driven. If there’s enough female viewership of some thing, then the writers and directors can afford to not make everyone stupid fucking Barbie dolls. Sounds like the population that enjoys the original hulk series, as well as the overall comic book, didn’t have the right ratio of female viewers, and was more male-based. So they have to put some candy in there for them, or they don’t get a return on their money. No secret.

"Strong Women" in Marvel works are written by the motto of 'I think of a man and I take away the reason and the accountability.'

Great point. Yes, how much more effective would it have been if the She-Hulk had actually been...hulkish...and not just a very large, tall, shapely green woman with long coiffed hair?

I only read about the twerking, it was like Megan and Tatiana twerked or something like that, and I don't know why I thought it was behind the scene like the two actresses having fun, I guess I didn’t thought they will let a lawyer character twerk.
