Just watched on Netflix. I didn't expect a fucking medical show to be so pro-trans but why am I surprised anymore.

Biologically male transgender teenage patient (under 18) presents with testicular issues in one of them. Patient character, Quinn, is played by a RL trans-identified male actor (because of course, because the woke crowd would have gone after them otherwise).

Wants to have both testicles removed to prevent "becoming a boy". Talks about puberty blockers and already wanting both balls removed during "gender confirmation surgery" in the future once they turn of age. Thinks having kids is "ew". Scathingly calls "cis people" and if "she" "wants kids in the future, I'll just adopt."

Parents characters are very pro-trans and supportive. Staunchly regurgitate TRA talking points in hurt, emotional voices, "she knew since she was three. She liked playing with dolls. When we made her dress up as a boy, she became reclusive and depressed. She tried to kill herself." strong wHy cAnT yOu jUsT bE KiNd vibes

Grandmother is based GC but also presented as a shallow one dimensional, stereotypical "TERF bitch" that constantly mIsGeNdErS the trans teen, loudly says being trans is being fake, is against everything the trans teen wants and scoffs loudly and rudely at everything. Has no tact filter or empathy. Very strongly against lopping off the healthy ball because Quinn is a literal child and is not capable of making decisions that will affect his future as an adult. Playing with dolls doesn’t make Quinn a girl. Is portrayed as completely emotionally shaken when the parents drop the suicide bomb, like that one statement changes everything.

Doctors are affirmative and the show leans strongly towards "TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS" "USE HER PRONOUNS, YOU BIGOT" vibes.

The main character, Dr Shaun Murphy, is a character with autism and for the first half of the show is shown mIsgEnDeRiNg Quinn, clearly not understanding why everyone ia tiptoeing around this and using "she/her" when the LITERAL SUBJECT MATTER IS ABOUT MALE TESTICLES. Also presented in previous episodes: that Shaun doesn’t like lying and he doesn’t have enough awareness to be tactful, so almost everything out of his mouth are truth bombs.

There's a decent section where the head doctors agree about removing a healthy organ being elective surgery than necessary surgery and acknowledge Quinn's suicide risks, as well acknowledging as the grandmother's point about keeping fertility options for the future (and because Quinn is still fucking underage). Quinn suddenly experiences testicular torsion. In the snap decision that needs to be made, the parents are finally convinced and agree to ask the surgeons to only remove the affected testicle instead.

And at the end, after Quinn has a hissy fit about not having both balls removed like he wanted. Blabs again about how he'll get them both removed in the future anyway. Doctor grudgingly agrees to be there for him when the time comes. Shaun ends up using she/her for the patient and seems to have accepted and become a TRA.

Like just what the fuck even. I particularly hate how the GC grandmother was portrayed. And apparently there's more trans crap shoved in after this episode? Just fuck everything about this.

I stopped watching this show when they made Leah "fall in love" with Shaun-y after he nag-begged-guilted her into it for season after season. Why couldn't they just be friends? Why did they have to reward him ignoring her boundaries?

oh god URGH that was another one of my huge gripes. Like... I somewhat like Shaun as a character, and I like Lea, but Lea just has too unrealistic expectations for him given his personality / issues / what little she knows of him, and the whole relationship felt kind of manipulative on Lea's part. She was the one who made Shaun kiss her ffs and then in Season 1-2 she does this whole song and dance about not wanting a relationship with him? after all the shit she did with him? and then instead of breaking it off she agrees to move in with him and so on and so forth and just. the whole thing is so fucking not working out, please stop. and shaun really gave off creepy vibes in a non-funny way when he was trying to "win" her friendship back, even if he didn't mean it, and she called him out on it... annnnnnnnnd they still moved in together like what. the fuck. STOP. NONE OF THIS IS HEALTHY AND YOU ARE NOT HIS THERAPIST, NEITHER IS HE YOURS. S T O P
