Did anyone watch this show? I'm watching it again for the third time and I'm wishing it got renewed for a fourth season. It's about a real-estate couple played by Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant and their teenage daughter. The show kicks off when Barrymore gets turned into a zombie and it's about them trying to maintain their suburban life while trying to keep her fed (by eating people).
Sheila before she gets bitten is a timid and shy woman, but becoming a zombie makes her more assertive and aggressive and the show portrays this as largely a good thing. A lot of the show is about how freeing it is for Sheila to not have to be "nice" all the time. It's also a fun twist to have the woman be the troublemaker and the man flounder as he tries to adjust.
What prompted me to make this post is that I just watched the episode where the daughters friend is "dating" a man in his twenties and they break up. Sheila figures he's terrible and so someone she can kill without feeling guilty. Joel, the husband, meets him and decides he's too sympathetic to kill. He tells Sheila that the guy didn't know his "girlfriend" was so young, and she immediately says "every creep says they didn't know!" Then the daughter is talking to her male friend about the same guy and he pulls out the same defense. She says "what did he think she was doing every day at the high school where he picked her up?" I thought it was a slick little commentary that the women immediately see through the bull, while the men (who are presented as likable characters) are both willing to give another man the benefit of the doubt.
