So this premiered (you can see episode one for free on YouTube) and the show is doubling down on lesbians sleeping with TIMs.

Last season we had Finley hooking up with Tess and Angie dating Jordi. This season we have Shane headed for a romance with Tess, while Alice's girlfriend flirts with a bisexual TIM. In a small group of lesbians, what are the odds that 4 are attracted to TIMs?

It's such a disappointment because I really do like the show. There's so much nostalgic pleasure in seeing Bette pine after Tina, or hearing Bette pronounce "groupon." Supposedly Helena will make an appearance, which pleases me, and Rosie O'Donnell plays the kind of butch character this show has always needed. But this incessant need to pair lesbians with biological men and act like it's perfectly natural sours the whole thing for me.

This show has always been a step behind whatever the L+B community is actually doing. For gen 1, they took flak for shitting on butch women and being clumsy with their portrayal of trans characters (even though they were actually pretty accurate, TRAs don't like honest representation). So now they're trying to have "better" trans representation (aka idealized bullshit) and actual butch women.

By the end of gen 2 I strongly believe they'll be attempting to portray GC lesbians. The same way gen 1 started anti-trans and changed their tune by the end of the series. They're just trying to mirror whatever is going on in the community, after it happens. I suspect autostraddle will also have to at least try to make space for GC lesbians and bi women soon too, otherwise they're not really representing the community. The whole thing will probably be a very "now now, we may not agree with GC but we at least need to acknowledge their viewpoints, because they represent 80% of the LB community and their dollars count. Plus they've been getting attacked and it's disturbing as fuck" kind of thing.
And of course after that, trans will become "that awkward and sad thing our therapists all convinced us to do in the 2010s. Why did we think it was such a good idea?"
