This afternoon my fiancé and I ordered Greek takeout. We've done this many times before with no problems, even from this same restaurant. But today was a little different.
I opened my falafel plate to see there were little white cubes on my salad. Vegan feta?
We explicitly requested for my meal to be vegan, and there is vegan feta readily available in every grocery store here in our country.
I even fed a little piece to my (omnivore) fiancé. "Does this taste like real cheese? Or vegan cheese?" I asked.
"It's pretty mild," he said. He even compared it to a piece of cheese from his own (non-vegan) meal, and said his tasted comparatively cheesier.
So I took a bite. definitely cheesy, but it lacked the rank aftertaste that usually accompanies dairy foods.
"So this must be what vegan feta tastes like. Cool." Big mistake.
Halfway through my meal I started feeling sick. Not just a grumble-tum but a full on "emergency procedure, I'm about to throw up" situation.
I bailed on the food-related activity and was able to walk off the immanent barfing, thank god.
But several hours later, I'm still queasy and kicking myself big time.
Why do people eat this stuff??? If this is the human body's natural response to it, it can't be good for you.
For context I used to eat cheese all the time without a problem, though I've been vegan many years at this point.
Anyways I just had to vent. Cheese is gross. Beware the cheese.
Edit: guys I'm not literally saying cheese can kill you, just that eating it can make you sick if your body isn't used to it. calm down with the down votes, this is getting ridiculous. 75% of the world's population is lactose intolerant, it's a real thing people.
If you're downvoting a post about cheese in /o/vegan purely because you happen to like cheese, you might want to rethink your life choices.

Weird, I didn’t wear makeup or gek clothes(?) to work today, everyone assumed I was female right away and I didn’t feel the need to cry about it? Maybe because I’m just a real woman.
Right? Today I went to a job interview with no makeup, unshaven, hair in a simple pony. I nailed it and an hour later, they called to offer me the job.

It is horrifying. I don’t want to hug them, or be anywhere near them, but I do feel bad for them in the same way that I feel bad for the Scientologists forced to scrub toilets with toothbrushes. They’re caught up in a nightmare of their own creation and that does make me pity them.

It's just occurred to me that they can't imagine that other people would actually be nice to them because it would never cross their own minds to be nice to other people.
Or it could be low self-esteem or previous experiences of bullying. It could be a lot of things, it’s hard to know.
Yes. Most people actually do want to be kind, or at least polite. They don't really think he's a woman, he's just recognizable as one of a group of men whom we've been told are desperately in of infinite kindness from strangers and passing acquaintances.
