Recently came across a woman who promotes a version of New Chronology, specifically denial of the existence of Ancient Rome, on TikTok. If you have any experiences with this idea I'd love to hear about it. I love strange beliefs.

My understanding is that it was a theory put forward as a means of bolstering the importance of Russia in history and undermining Western European developments at a time when Russia was not a cohesive polity and was relatively less advanced. Also I believe this chronology would omit the Mongols, and therefore the fall of Kievan Rus. This theory would of course suit the Soviets. It is a really entertaining conspiracy, although I feel like the last few years ruined the fun of a good conspiracy theory!

It didn't suit the soviets, its a post soviet invention.

The theory emerged alongside other alternate histories and conspiracy literature in the period of increased freedom of speech that followed the break-up of the Soviet Union.

Its freedom.
