Just talking here. One of our cats gave us such a scare. Heard a cat shriek from the other room and I came running. Sage and Eclair both had puffed tails, and Cookie was looking on. Because Cookie and Eclair don't always get along I thought they had fought and Sage was upset. Sage is kind of mothering.

Then I saw blood. LOTS of blood. Dripping down the radiator, along the windowsill, on the floor. I looked at Sage who had a bloody paw.

We figure she was climbing the screen, as she likes to do, and broke or pulled out a claw.

I picked her up. Blood all over me. Tried to look, but she kept pulling away. Wrote the vet.

Luckily the bleeding seems to have stopped, and she doesn't seem to be in too much pain. She is favor the foot a bit, but she is jumping up and down onto things, eating (at least a liquid snack as well!)

So... calming down now. The vet suggested disinfecting it with a bit of salt water.

Yeowch! You could get her gabapentin if the pain seems to be bothering her (it's hard to tell with cats, but if she's being weird about eating or grooming it might be a good idea).

we have her on some pain medication, tomorrow is the last day, and next week I can take the bandage off (we had her to the vet, it was bad, she pulled out more than just the nail, but apparently stuff on the side of her nail? I'm very confused by it. They showed us a picture but I still am confused.) Poor baby. She is such a sweet cat!!!

Is the claw gone completely? My dog once lost the outer shell of his claw when another dog attacked him. You could see the flesh and bones. He had to wear a cast for a few days and I remember the rules about keeping him clean and disinfected were VERY strict! So, from previous experience, make sure there are no infections and the like :)

I think we are going to take her in tomorrow as there was some more bleeding. She may have opened it up when she went to the bathroom. Poor baby.

Poor Sage! Disinfecting is the important thing, and keeping it covered so she doesn’t get infected. You must have had a heart attack seeing and hearing all that!

My heart is still racing. My anxiety is through the roof. She won't let us touch her paw, so we can't wrap it. Vet today.
