I dont know if you guys have seen this. College student in Egypt Naira Ashraf got stabbed in broad daylight for rejecting a guy and blocking him on facebook. This was one of her classmates who adopted an "if I cant have you nobody can." He stalked her and harrassed her to marry him for a whole year.

People are victim blaming her by saying this never would have happened if she wore hijab including big figures in egypt like Mabrouk Attia who is a famous tv presenter. https://twitter.com/SherifGaber/status/1539318340354576394

People have also been taking her old photos and photoshopping the hijab on her https://twitter.com/gimmesushibish/status/1539213713382817792

NOBODY intervened. Despite her getting stabbed in public in broad daylight.

God I hate Islam.

No, it's not misunderstood. It's not misunderstood by Westerners and it's not misunderstood by its own fucking clergy. Imams that support this shit are, scripture-wise right on the nose.

This poor girl. If she had accepted she would have been a sl*t. If she had worn a hijab, someone would have pointed out that she had a visible "camel's hump." (A visible outline of your hair in a bun). She's not going to get justice after her death. No one is going to learn, no one is going to change, no one is going to try to do better.

Religious "extremism" is religious literalism. Muslim "extremists" adhere to every single word of Quran, Sahih al-Bukhari and other "holy" collections. They prove to us that the religion itself promotes misogyny, homophobia and execution of non-believers

It's the "moderates" that cherry pick and ignore "scriptures". They are more dangerous than the "extremists" for supporting the religion and instilling the falsehood that "the religion is misunderstood" into the minds of others

The "moderates," if they've read any of their scripture, are straight up liars. In the quran and hadiths, it's made very clear that it's meant to be taken literally. Repeatedly. Erdogan is right- there is no "extreme Islam." There's only Islam. You're either doing it right or you're doing it wrong.

Their converts have a very high attrition rate. I can't remember the stat, exactly, but it's around 75% ghosting within three years. The reason: "I read more and it wasn't what the dawah guy said it was." Meaning, they mostly convert before they even understand it. Once they sit down and do their homework, or worse, observe the behaviors of everyone else in the mosque. they realize they've been had.

This is not reflected in people who convert to other religions, including Christianity. Part of that is Christianity is better known in the West, and many of their converts are converting from another form of it. Fair enough. But either way, Christian evangelists don't have to lie by omission. It would be impossible anyway in the West.

Dawah preachers relied heavily on spreading false information about Islam in the 90's and early 2000's. The internet was still fairly new back then, and most Westerners knew little about it. So it was easier to say "Oh, all those terrible things you've heard are just rumors spread by racists! Yes, a tiny portion of people who say they are Muslim do bad stuff, but they don't understand Islam. Kinda the way the KKK doesn't understand the New Testament!!!" The media and Western government all got on the "Islam mean peace!" train, including George W. Bush.

The moderates get on my nerves because they want a gold star for leading normal lives. Or to be praised for saying that Coptic persecution in Egypt is wrong. Yeah, before you were telling me there was no persecution, you would know more than me, blah blah blah.

I'm not asking anyone to leave their religious communities. It's a huge thing to ask and damn hard to do. But stop making it MY job to make you feel better about the whole thing. Stop lying to me and then getting angry when I already know what you're saying isn't true.

This poor woman is DEAD because of Islamic brainwashing. Just accept it.

I don't know if Christianity is really that much better. There is lots of shitty stuff in the Bible.

And I suspect (though as I only go to churches for weddings and the like, I do not know for sure) that even Catholic priests never quote the misogynist parts of the Bible. So, here in Germany, you could say they do lie by omission.

Though admittedly the Bible does have the great advantage that 1) no one claims it is literally the word of god as dictated by him (except for the ten commandments, I guess) and 2) the things Jesus himself said according to the Bible are actually pretty okay, the shitty stuff is mostly in the Old Testament, which Christians don't adhere to anyway, unless they want an excuse for homophobia.

As for her being dead because of Islam ... could be, but could also be regular male entitlement. Islam is unique in that it brainwashes men into murdering their daughters and sisters. Murdering women who reject them is something men of all religions do all the time, sadly.

Can we start using active voice instead of passive voice when talking about such cases?

Like, "An entitled male murdered Naira Ashraf after she rightfully rejected him".

The passive voice makes it seem like the murder was something that just happened, instead of something a man did. Name the problem and all that.

Moral of the story: never post photos of yourselves on social media and never interact with men unless it's necessary

Sad but true. Men are fucking insane and delusional and you never know what will set them off.

The guy who beat me up screamed at me the whole time that I "deserved" it for pepper spraying him... because I guess I was supposed to stand there and let him hit me?

And all of that because I ignored him and focused on my phone when he barged up demanding cigarettes.

This reminds me of getting beat to a pulp on the street because I yelled at a man catcalling us and the only thing people said to me when I told them about it is that I "should have been quiet".

Men always blame us for what they do to us.

Edit because catcalling isn't what he did, for full disclosure. He walked up to us and told us to suck his dick and tried to follow us.

I hope he's dead, and I hope it hurt.

It would have happened just the same if she wore hijab.

We know that men do not perceive women who aren't pretty enough by their shitty beauty ideals as women.

Vice versa, if a woman wears the kind of garment where not even her eyes are visible, men see only a woman - and of course imagine that she must be "fuckable" by their standards.

Therefore, I strongly suspect that the kind of veil that covers the face makes sexual harrassment even worse for those women who would fly under the radar of most males by virtue of being "ugly" if they were allowed to show their faces.
