For context, my country has been having more femicides than actual homicides for multiple years now.

It was at 17 women, when I made my outdated art project on femicide.

I simply no longer know what to say or even do. Men only keep arguing about the German definition of the word "Femicide", showing what they truly care about. How dare we point out the one common fixture. Woman being killed. By men.

"it's not always femicide!" And very clearly you don't even understand the definition.

How dare I if I even mention the word "Femicide" as if other "-cides" don't exist. Because very clearly, the definition is important right now, not that it's been the 25th femicide.

Not to mention that most in my country, don't understand the word at all. For them it's "women killed by their husband or partner". Not the actual definition.. "woman killed".

"but the definitions don't always fit, you can't call all those murders femicide." "you don't know what happened yet, calling it a femicide is inappropriate and rash"

suicide, self cide, patricide, matricide, parenticide, fratricide, sororicide, mariticide, viricide, uxoricide, filicide, prolicide, parricide, homicide, femicide, gynecide, gynaecide, infanticide, aborticide, feticide, foeticide, senicide, regicide, herbicide, philosophicide, vaticide, czaricide, episcopicide, prenticecide, brahmanicide, sparticide, modernicide, hospiticide, nepoticide, ambicide, hosticide, heretocide, tyrannicide, christicide, it goes on and on and on.

I'm tired..

I looked up your art installation in your earlier post - it's haunting and a beautiful memento.

Reading your post made me remember that I once got into an argument with a German-speaking male acquaintance who claimed that "using the word femicide for the murder of one single woman trivialises e.g. female infanticide in China" (we were talking about a recent femicide where a woman was killed by her intimate partner).

Even when I sent him the official definition, i.e. "defined as "the intentional killing of women or girls because they are female" he would not stop to argue.

I eventually gave up on discussing with this individual. Why do they argue like that? Do they somehow feel guilt by association because their sex commits most of all violent crimes, and try to relativise this by saying "it only counts when it was in a relationship context (because then the woman must have had some complicity in her own murder)"?

He doesn't care. He just wants to exhaust you. Don't waste your energy on men like this. Move on to someone who actually cares.

And ditch that friend.

You are absolutely right - that discussion happened some years ago, and shortly after I cut contact with him (and some other acquaintances that proved to be similarly exhausting).

I haven't looked back since, nothing of value was lost back then :)

My goddess...that's awful.

In my country, which has an awful lot of gun violence, men still kill men at higher rates than they kill women. I'm so sorry.

It sounds tiring. Sometimes there is only so much you can do to educate people when they are hell bent on trying to derail. Keep trying to get your message out, and spend your energy on those who listen.

Are TIMs inflating the count

How? TIMs are much much more likely to be the perp. If anything, they are keeping the count down because their murders are being counted as female-on-female homicides instead.
