The polls have closed in Italy. And it appears that Italy will elect it's first woman prime minister...

...and she's a facist.

A real proper facist. And what does this mean for women?

Meloni is comparable to Le Pen in other ways. Both are examples of what political scientists call “genderwashing,” when female politicians adopt a nonthreatening image to blunt the force of their extremism. Meloni’s signature look involves flowing outfits in pastel shades. To uninformed foreigners, her ascent could look like female empowerment; she poses as a defender of women, even as her party has rolled back women’s rights. In localities it governs, Brothers of Italy has made abortion services—the procedure has been legal in Italy since 1978—harder to access. Municipal authorities in Verona, where the party has shared power with Salvini’s League, declared the city “pro-life.”

And

In particular, the natalist obsession of Il Duce’s 20-year rule, with its “Battle for Births,” has survived in the Brothers of Italy’s present-day concern about boosting the birth rate, its proposal to link social-welfare assistance to mothers and those engaged in child care, and its attempts to limit reproductive rights.

In her interview in Venice, Hillary Clinton also remarked on how right-wing parties can sometimes appear better at promoting women. Women like Meloni “are protected by patriarchy,” she said, “because they are often the first to support the fundamental pillars of male power and privilege.” Meloni’s party slogan—“God, Fatherland, Family”—celebrates those very pillars of power. And it came from Mussolini’s dictatorship.

There's a reason British left wing feminists are shouting from the rooftops that women need to be wary of aligning with the far right...

The far right is no friend to women.

They see us as support animals for manly men who are in charge & superior; and they see us as breeding units who either need to be prevented from breeding, or coerced into breeding (depending on our skin colour).

Everyone should be scared of this push all over the West for women to have more babies. Who does it really serve?

Italy has welfare. Italian population is known for living a lot. People aren't having kids for obvious reasons. Who is gonna pay for retirement of the already existing old population? Will us youngsters ever retire? See our population pyramid

While I don't think women should be forced to have kids if they don't want to, it's clear that welfare states need young people and the solution isn't importing immigrants. There are solutions that could incentive people who already want kids but nobody does shit in Italy.

Who does it really serve?

Countries with huge welfare states need young workers to pay into the system when old folks can no longer work and need expensive medical care. And importing people isn't cutting it because a lot of immigrants nowadays just end up on welfare as well.

End up on welfare and are often unredeemable misogynists. Yeah, no thanks.

I think it may also have to do with the fact that some parts of society don’t want (a certain type of) immigrants.

Fewer immigrants = a need to increase the birth rate from native women.

Not related to the substance of this post, but I read a lot about the abuse of foreign women workers in Italy, so much so that they even have a name for it: Italy syndrome

Italy is also notorious for the huge number of women from Eastern Europe that are trafficked. They don’t all work in prostitution, but they are often sexually abused by employers. I remember I once saw an article about women who worked in agriculture and they were forced to have sex with their bosses at the farm.

Italy seems to be a very misogynistic society, alas.

In fairness, I feel I need to disclose that I’ve only been there as a tourist and I was catcalled by men of all ages. So I am a bit salty about it.

Will not visit again😬

There's a fertility crisis in the west that's only going to get worse. Sperm counts and testosterone levels in men have been dropping for decades now, and the viability of women's eggs have also been dropping.

Immigration won't fix anything because within a generation the children of immigrants are affected too.

I think this is real reason Roe v. Wade was overturned and why there's talk of banning contraceptives. No one in real life is anti-contraceptive. That's just weird.

Rich people. They need wage slaves and kids too poor to pay for college so opt into the military.
