How terrified she must be! I know she didn't make that decision lightly with a child and husband at home. I hope she can find solace wherever she ends up.

I just read that Poland offered her a visa and she is at their embassy in Japan. Her husband has left for Ukraine (presumably her child too.) Good news for now.

Damn, wishing her all the best in Poland and hopefully her husband, child, and parents come out all right. She seems like an intelligent and dedicated person and will probably thrive in a more liberated country, away from repressive governments and the politicisation of sport.

To be fair, her original video wasn't the most polite and it's never a good idea to criticise Olympic decisions when the president of the National Olympic Committee just happens to be the son of the president of the country, but you can tell from that video and the subsequent conversation she had with committee officials ("I'm not trying to prove anything dammit, I just want to run!") that this all arose because she cares deeply about her sport and her performance and that's something to be admired.
