I didn't realize being included in an app community was a "human right". Especially since there are MILLIONS of apps out there (and the TIMs in tech can easily create their own). This is so obviously a ploy to either colonize or destroy the one female app that won't put up with their nonsense
There are already tons of apps and social networks for trans people only (take a scroll through the app store). They of course never have an issue 🙄
It's bc of the penis. Penises rights are human rights.Even cut penises have privileges.
So…. When women are mass deleted from platforms for disagreeing with men that’s all good, but if anyone dare exclude Penis people for whatever reason it is a human rights violation?
Sall Grover, CEO of Giggle, a social media app just for females, has received notice that she will be taken to federal court for excluding all male people from using the app. Roxanne Tickle, a biological male who has a trans identity, is suing because he didn't pass through the visual identification process that checks new members are female before allowing them access to the app. Sign to say that you also believe that females have the human right to congregate away from the presence of male people, and confirm that single sex environments have been beneficial to your mental and emotional health in a way that cannot be recreated in a mixed sex space.
Roxanne Tickle?
If that surname is his real one that he grew up with, why the hell wouldn’t he change it before transing out? It sounds like a drag queen’s stage name ffs.
I absolutely hate that this is being called a "human rights violation", I can understand why it might feel "unfair" for a man to be excluded but like...you have a million other spaces. Why do you need to enter THIS ONE too?
I know this is also beside the point but I will say this app doesn't work for well for me. The first time I tried to sign up I got denied, which played on my self consciousness of thinking I like a 12 year old boy (without makeup, particularly mascara/eyelashes, I don't look extremely feminine). I tried it again but I put on mascara and eyeliner and smiled and it let me in. If it thought I was a man and then I was able to get through just by putting on makeup and smiling, how many other TIMs with more feminine faces who "pass" can make it through the AI? I wish the verification process was not done through AI but through a moderation team. I understand that takes more time and money but yeah.
Sal says the AI is only 90-95% accurate and sometimes just completely craps out. She says she's had it accept men with beards who don't even look like TIMs (which is why she constantly monitors it - the AI is the first barrier to ease the workload but it is backed up by human monitoring) and sometimes fails for women. I wouldn't take it personally or take it as a sign you don't look like a woman.
Is it really backed up by human monitoring? After it denied me it would not let me re-sign up at all with my number and I had to try again using my work phone.
It certainly is for the people who get through (as they pose a greater risk). I imagine if you reached out it would have been sorted.
They want to enter it specifically because it's exclusive to females. TIMs get off on violating women's boundaries and spaces. Ironically, once a space accepts a critical mass of TIMs, it pisses the TIMs off, they don't get euphoria boners from intruding upon other men.
I think the angle you hold the camera at has a big impact on how well it works. The flattering "shoot from above" shot didn't work for me 😂
That app glitches out for me so much and barely functions, I wish these demons would leave her alone so she could actually develop the application. I will sign and hope this idiot scrote who sued her stops wasting everyone's time, money, and our precious oxygen soon.
Yeah I do have problems with it functioning too, but I love her concept so much I keep it downloaded as support.
Same, I have made it to a few "giggles" of women (not my fave naming convention but again, rare female space) and met a few women but I hope that she gets some time to fix the issues so I don't have to keep re-making my profiles.
It's still young and she wants to do lots of development on it to make it as good as possible 😊
Why do we allow links to online petitions on this platform? Does anyone take online petitions seriously? It just seems like a way to harvest personal data and sell it, and can't possibly be effective. I imagine there are lots of ways to add fake names to a petition as well, so the whole endeavor just seems stupid.
Reminder that he timed this complaint so that Sal would have to have a response ready the day she is due to give birth.
"Human rights complaint" how privileged and entitled do you hsave to be to believe that not being able to access one single app in a see of millions is a "human rights violation". "Trans" people tell me you're not oppressed and have never faced any kind of hardship in your pathetic lives without telling me you're not oppressed and have never faced any kind of hardship in your pathetic lives.
What good does this petition do? How does this petition “protect” anything at all?
agreed. online petitions are meaningless. where's the fundraising campaign for her legal fees? the quality and quantity of her legal representation is the one t hing that will make or break her case.
The idea is to have a list of women who confirm that they need a single sex space online as the law in Australia is that they can only have them if need can't be met in other ways. It will be harder to argue that our needs can be met in other ways if we are explicitly saying they can't be.
What specific act of parliament are you talking about there? I'm not convinced that is the law. If you're referring to the Sex Discrimination Act, "sex" is defined as sex, gender identity, pregnancy status, sexuality, intersex status, marital/relationship status, and more besides. Definition is so inclusive that it wouldn't apply in this case where the man has self reported magic gender feelings.
Disclaimer: not a lawyer
Sorry, I remember how condescending and rude she was when she came onto the reddit GC sub. No way. I know she changed her mind later but I don't care.
When it comes to women's right to free association with other women away from men it becomes a feminist issue regardless of the lightning rod getting struck.
Giggle is hardly active. How are they this up in arms about forcing themselves onto an app that people barely use?
'It's not censorship!, It's a private company, they can do whatever/ban whoever they want!'
That rhetoric disappears very quickly when they find themselves on the other side of the ban...
I think the specific legal reason is that sex is a protected characteristic, so excluding an entire sex without whatever the courts deem a valid reason (I guess escape from harrassment would be a solid one) could be discrimination. Opinions are not protected though, unless they're religious, so legally you can exclude whoever you want for whatever opinions you don't like on a platform like twitter.
But religions have private groups, there are also spaces created for racial minorities, and the Masons have separate male and female clubs, frats and sororities are separate and they exclude lots of people, these don't have "valid reasons" any more than a female only app does. Doesn't "discrimination" only count for things like housing and employment, not membership into private clubs?
